The benefit of salary sacrifice depends on how much you earn and to a lesser extent now the km per year you drive. I leased my 120 and have just leased the 150. For both cars the actual net cost of car + maintenance + consumables is less that if I pay for it out of my pocket directly. So do your sums carefully and get advice. Another advantage is if you sal sac with Toyota Fleet you should (will?) get a nice discount on the price of the car. The benefit reduces markedly once you kick over the LCT threshold since you are paying 30% tax on everything over that value. For the 120 and 150 I brought the price up that value with mods (suspension, snorkel, towbar, bullbar) and then fitted the rest either by myself of paying direct to the supplier/dealer. The dealer was able to get a better price for those bits than me too, that saved about $500 on the best price I had.

I have bought all my 4wds new mainly because the locations that we have lived it is difficult to find a good 2nd hand one that has a solid history and no abuse. Sad but true. These days sal sac works as the best option for me.

Unlike Andrew I have had good use of warranty though mainly the genuine Toyota extended warranty so if you can get that I would be inclined to add the $1700 to the price. Just make sure it is Toyota extra care and not some 3rd party dealer sponsored thing that has a limit on each claim and a total spend limit per year. Some have other restrictions too like you cannot make a claim on any day that has a y in it so beware. I had water pump and injectors done under Toyota extra care so all up I am about $2.5k in front. Warrantly issues in the first 3 years were few and mostly very minor (I struggle to think of any but there were a couple of things).

Had a quick look on carsales as someone else suggested. Results as follows

2010 Prado GXL New from memory about $60,000 on road, now average about $52,000 below 100,000km

2010 Pajero Platinum New 54,990 on road, now average about $45,000 below 100,000km.

Prado clearly holds its value better. More proof? The 2010 Pajero GLS, which is more similar to the GXL Prado, was about $56k on road
yet can be had for less than $40k for a good one with low kms. I love my Paj (probably wrong choice of words here) but you cant deny the reputation Toyota has made for itself.
Wish List: Late 120 series or 150 series V6 preferably manual, the funds to buy said vehicle

Current ride: MY2002 Mits. Pajero V6 manual With a couple of bits and pieces

86% versus 81% isn't a hell of a lot of difference plus I got bullbar, suspension lift, winch and driving lights plus something else for $1000 to equalise the price

i just signed up for a used one this morning, im 10 days away from getting it as selling my car privately first, i got to take it home for the night and climb all over everything looking for faults, i couldnt find anything wrong , it is a 2010 vx done 34k, and came with a toyota 3 yr unlimited km warranty, free warrant of fitness checks and free road side assistance, 12 months registration and w.o.f, and saved at least 20k on new price. suits me perfectly to buy in this condition.
