  • Prado 150 Series

I'm looking at buying a 150 series diesel prado GXL. My budget doesn't stretch as far as I'd like it to, and as such have to sacrifice and get more kms then I would really like to. I have been looking at 2 different ones, a 2009 with 98kms and a 2010 with 115km. Both cars have a full service history and are otherwise clean and tidy. What are people's thoughts on buying a diesel with this many kms in such a short time? How long should I expect the engine life to be? Any help would be appreciated.

100k is nothing for a Prado T/D as long as its been looked after properly and not an ex-mine vehicle.

    What is your budget?

Hi, my budget is max $42K. Both vehicles I've viewed I can get for under this (after some good negotiations).

      Thanks for the response

Just get the oil pickup checked at its first service and you should be fine.

If its a late 2010, go with that. If its an early 2010 there is less to consider.

Hi, thanks or the response. I'm a little unsure what you mean by less to consider. Is there more specific things I should be looking at between the early and late 2010 models? Is this something to do with the model itself, or the number of kms on it?

No real issues, but the 2009 were the very first 150s. There where a couple of minor changes to the motor (I think the injectors, but there are others on PP who would know better) in mid to late 2010.

Mine is an early 2010 and I have no issues, but if there is not much difference I would go the later if buying.

When you look at them, open the bonnet and have a good look at the top of the injectors. if there is ANY sign of oil or grunge up there at all, walk away...

Don't forget, the late 120 series had the same engine, so unless you have to have a 150, they could be a better option for the money

100,000km is not a lot for those year models.

I do average 40,000 per year so my car will only be 2.5 years old at 100,000km

100,000km is reasonably low for a D4D i would think.

                Cheers,

I understand a lot of people want to stay away from mine vehicles due to being thrashed etc, anything else about ex mine vehicles.

They tend to cop a lot of abuse, not just from the way they are driven but also the type of terrain they are driven on.

From experience I would say be very thorough in checking them out if you are contemplating buying one.

I would rather spend an extra $5k buying one that wasn't ex mines.
