I had oversized tyres on my Kakadu when purchased, the dealer ended up swapping them for new all terrain tyres in the correct size as per the tyre placard. Don't know what the regs are for wheels but depending on what tyre size they have on them you may find you've gone over the allowable outer diameter limit.
Yea, I have checked with RTA and they mentioned the diameter must not be greater than 1.5 cm of the recommended one on the same car. when I calculated it was less than that. This wheel and tyres have been fitted by bobjane according to RTA and Toyota guidelines (thats what dealer said..I have his message as proof). I have discussed with my tyre service friend and he told that since they haven't increase the height and the wheels are not coming outside of the car's width it is not a problem. According to my local toyota service guy the 20 inch alloys and 50 series profile tyres meet toyota's load bearing specifications of Prado.

Moreover I like the wheels look as well. so decided to go for it..

The MTA mechanic told me that it is not good for off road..these tyres are mainly for style and more road driving. It is not a deal breaker for me because I don't have any plans to go off-road.

Just in case If I want to change these wheels to normal standard 18 inch wheels and tyres how much it cost..

Please advise if you feel any issues in my findings..

I have got the same opinion from RTA. Thanks for your advise.

since they have changed the two front tyres with brand new ones (with proper alignment) I felt the riding was more smooth than the last time.

So I decided to go with it.

Just keep your eye on gumtree - plenty of people offload their old rims when they upgrade.

Personally, if possible (not sure on any legalities, but considering the VX came with 18" rim I would think it should be ok) I would go for the 17" GXL rim. Rubber would be cheaper and bit more sidewall flex than an 18" - meaning it would bag a little better in sand and better ride on the bum dyno.

GXL 17" rims wont fit on a KDSS equipped vehicle so either the factory 18s or there are a couple on here with FJ 17" rims. You would need to test fit the rims to make sure.

Cost is up to the seller and what you are prepared to buy. I have seen 4 FJ wheels for sale for about $1,000 and tyres are probably $300 - $400 each new. Keep an eye out if you need them, otherwise just enjoy your Prado.

BTW Rangies get away with sand driving on the 50 profile tyres but I don't know how the tyres cope with it.

Thanks guys..all your advises. it really helped to solve all my worries and to fight with dealers to get things fixed.

Very excited to start driving from Sunday. Big vehicle for the first time..tension is there..

Yesterday I measured my garage width and length and I was shocked..the length is 5m and width, the actual width I can use for entering to the garage is 2.4 m. I have two garages separated by a piller only in the front.

As per the Prado's dimensions it will be tough for my car to fit it in.
            Length 4,820 mm (189.8 in)
            Width 1,885 mm (74.2 in)
            Height 1,845 mm (72.6 in)

since it has got tow bar..don't know which will fit in 5m garage or not( I hope the length mentioned including the spare wheel). width is fine but I will struggle to get down. I have my own driveway in front of garage but feels bad to keep the car outside always..even though I am living in kind of safe suburb where people keep their car outside..moreover ours is a cul-de-sac too.

                Hi Guys,

I have got my Prado yesterday and I was driving almost the full afternoon.
All fears regarding size and handling by myself is gone now. It is very smooth to drive. I am really surprised with the turning radius and steering comfort (Bit big in size though). I really like the view from the height. Thanks for all your advises which gave me confidence to answer to my friends who asked many questions like what I had initially.

I have few questions..didn't get any time to read the manuals yet.

I am having NRMA roadside assistance with my old corolla and when I tried to transfer they told me my current membership which is classic care only cover vehicles under 2.5 ton weight. I think my prado is 2.4 ton. NRMA executive didn't know prado comes in that list. He asked me to get premium if I am sure..
Is that roadside assistance is enough for my prado or we need something else?

the fuel meter shows always 13.9L/100 kms always..I doubt whether it is working or not..Is this figure shows true consumption?
It is always showing eco lights ..I feel I am driving in proper way.

                Please advise..

Fuel use in the 13s is better than I expected to be honest.

I don't know the meter reading is correct. Since the dealer has put full tank fuel it will take some weeks to know something about the true efficiency. It was showing 13.9 in highways and city driving. never changed a decimal unit also. so I am doubtful about it.

Mine's more like 18L/100 kms. Try putting it on the 'After Refuel' setting and see what it says then.

Someone from NSW will have to advise you re: NRMA, I'm with RACV.

Sorry mate, I thought you reset it. yes you will need to do a test, your average is based upon the last owners average who quote possibly never rest it.

Mine is covered under classic care (just over $100 for memory) can double check tonight when I get home for you BUT mine is 120 series so maybe lighter ?? I will increase mine to maximum coverage before next years GTG as it covers for hire car/ towing of van/ accommodation etc will cost me over $200 for maximum cover but well worth it when our of town.... I think I would still have to drag to a main rd for towing pretty certain they don't go off the beaten track so to speak but nearly always some one to help you in that situation.... Cheers Steve

With roadside assistance, just be aware that the towing distance specified on the policy is the distance from their depot. So if your policy is for 200km (400km round trip) and you breakdown just outside of 200km from their depot, you won't be covered.
