There have been a few cases of engine failures in the D4D at low km due to either injector problems (the reported issues or caused by poor fuel etc) or the oil pick up screen being blocked due to blowby and contamination of the oil. As I said these problems are reported on here. So a replacement D4D is not a problem in itself. Make sure it has the latest DLC injectors and check the feedback values and get the dealer to do an oil change and inspect the screen. If it was bad fuel make sure the tanks were dumped and cleaned. The only concern I would have is if the failure was attributable to poor maintenance but as I said early failures weren't unusual and even the later D4D's with DLC injectors had the odd issue and they still had the uncoated injector seats.
