  • Which models have the factory dual fuel tanks?

Hi all, I am currently researching my next vehicle and have narrowed it down to a 1999-2001 Prado. I see that several people are talking about the duel fuel tanks but I can't seem to find exactly which models have them. I am looking at Prado's with the 1kd-ftv. Thanks

The 5 door ones with the spare tyre mounted on the door should have dual tanks.

Are there any other indicators? Extra fuel gauge, switches... I can usually only see a picture of the front, rear and the whole dash.

Na only indicator on the 120 series is to have a look underneath. There is one fuel tank on the left under the rear passenger door and one tank under the bum. Unless you fire it up and a green 90lt light is lit on the dash which means it's on its second tank. The 90 series has a switch near your left knee and a second fuel gauge around the same spot. Also the 90 series has two filler holes. The 120 only has one

On the Oz models, there is a separate sub-tank gauge in the centre console, below the stereo (from memory).

But if the spare tyre is not on the rear door, then there shouldn't be a sub-tank installed.

Looks like maybe the dual tank setup is more common in Oz, i'm buying a unit from Japan so perhaps they didn't offer that option there.

The Japanese model only comes with the single tank and the spare wheel slung underneath the cargo area, looks like you might have bombed out!
              Common sense isn't that common.....

It's very easy to spot the aux tank under the middle passenger side, next to the rear prop shaft, it hangs down below the chassis (unfortunately ). I think only Aus models have them...?
