  • Things to look out for??

    Hi all

The wife and i are looking at updating to a new car. We are looking at purchasing her a 150series GXL for her to drive as a daily and also to set up for outback touring later in the year. 7 seats may come in handy in the future as well but not needed yet. My old 80 series is a bit beyond outback trips now and she would like something more reliable and comfy. As her plans are to drive it everyday.

I know plenty about cruisers and patrols and what to look out for when looking at second hand trucks, but I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to looking for issues and common problems that Prados may have. We are currently looking at a 2010 KDJ150R GXL manual. Is there anything that we need to keep an eye out for when we look over the car? i.e:body cracks, chassis cracks, rust spots, mechanical issues etc

    Any help would be great..

    Thanks in advance
    Adam

You posted this at the same time as I got my 2nd hand prado.

I guess just the usual things were my main concern, smoke noise, rattles, tyres, brakes, low range actually works, water marks/smell inside cab. Mine turned out to be all good and no dramas (touchwood).
Just gotta do some OT to start setting her up

Dont know how I missed this. Selling my 80 series and have replaced it with a 2014 GXL Prado. We went from two cars to one, sold the wife's corolla, so it is also the wife's daily drive. So far the only complaint is the lack of room in the back compaired to the 80, but that was to be expected and not really complaining. Great car, soooooo much comfyer and more power, better fuel economy, cruise control, etc. Still finding it hard to actually part with the old girl though, the mighty 80 has taken us to some awesome places.

When looking second hand always buy the best you can afford, check the inner front guards for cracks and get the injectors checked or factor in for replacement if it has higher k's. An already modded one will be cheaper in the long run, however, they usually have been used in rougher places so just have a good look over it.
