  • Looking to buy an 04-06 GXL TD - what to look out for?

    Hi folks.

Im looking buy another Prado (had a 90 series and loved it) and i thought id ask the 'what to look for question'.

Ive got to sell my Triton first and im going to take sometime to look for the right car. Happy to travel to pick it up (probably cant afford the time at the moment to travel to Perth!).

This is what i am after:

    2004-2006 GXL 3.0l TD
    GXL
Manual (unless i someone talks me into getting another auto (not happy with the auto in the Triton))
    White
    No more than 130000kms
Winch compatible bullbar (im brining my winch from my Triton)
    Snorkel
Lift kit would be a bonus but i can wait for that.

Im pretty picky so thats why im prepaired to wait (Ive got until xmas as i want to hit Fraser again!)

So what should i look out for when inspecting the 120?

    Thanks in advance.

What was wrong with the auto in the triton?

Generally modern diesels and electronic autos go together like bundy and coke!

Living in Canberra I would take some time looking for a genuine ACT owned car even if they have high miles as the roads are pretty damn good. I bought an 05 GXL here in Tasmania with 150k on it and have since put another 90k on it and it still drives like new. Really tight.

    Best of luck!

      Thanks TT.

The auto is the most laziest auto i have ever driven. It also jumps into second when in low 1st (i learnt that the hard way on a steep down hill)

Ive been looking for a month now and there isnt much around. Seems like these models are pretty sought after or maybe not many people are selling at the moment. Ive still got to move my Triton so ill keep looking. Id like to get something with a snorkel and winch bull bar to save on cost (and arguments with the missus) but i think ill be out of luck.

Im going to increase my kms to 200k - hell its a diesel!

      Cheers
