  • Need help - Purchasing a 03/04 120

    Hi guys,
Planning of buying the mighty prado!
Was just wondering if a 03/04 petrol v6 with around 250k k's would be a good buy?
I know that this is way less of information, but just wanted to know if these engines are still good to be bought at 250+ k's?

Any thing specific that I should be looking out for?

    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Yep I did come across this thread, just wanted to know if there was anything else?
Also wanted to know the life span of the v6 engines... yep have seen the thread for that too! Just wanted to get some fresh opinion from the experts here!

      Cheers!

Good to go. v6 awesome engine and personally I reckon will do more trouble free motoring then the D4D but will cost more at the pump. Resale on petrol not as good but good for us who buy second hand. If serviced as required I don't see any reasons you won't see over 500 thou. I've seen a few of the older 90's doing well over 400 and still going strong. There's a member on here who runs a fleet of hilux's at his work and has reported of two that I remember with over 700thou with the 4L V6. 250 thou wouldn't bother me. If the rest is ok with a good service history then go for it... Later model with 5 speed auto is a bit better in regards to slightly better economy and a few other little things they reviewed but the 4 speed auto still a good strong box.... Cheers Steve

          Thanks for the information Steve!
Alright that's good news! The newer 05 models with the 5sp are a little off my budget...so I'm guessing it's the 4 speed for me...I have driven a Toyota fortuner back in Singapore with a 4 speed gear box and done a fair bit of off road ...and had no issues at all either!
Alright then, time to sell the patrol! Haha

There was an update in late 2004 that had a lot of discreet updates. I thought to sound deadening and so on but cant recall. Someone on here should know.

I reckon those k's are fine.

Yeah Tassie there was a few, redesigned exhaust manifolds to stop the exhaust flutter, still there, rear door around hinge to stop the cracking around the door hinge, 5 speed auto, theres probably a few other things on other models eg full electric on drivers seat on the VX, modified rear bags on the grande's (stop them popping out on full flex) just some that I have read or heard about.....Cheers Steve
