  • Planning on Purchasing a Prado in a Few Days

Note: I did search. Need a bit more info.

Very brief background: My wife and I live in the Dominican Republic, have been here about one and a half years, and live in a mountainous area (Jarabacoa). We have had an extremely bad experience with a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD (Diesel) V6 and want to get rid of it ASAP. A new problem I have never had before moving to the DR is that the mechanics knowledge is limited and they basically did not know how to fix our car. Luckily Toyota's are popular and especially the Prado. Our choice has been narrowed down to a 2007 or 2008 Land Cruiser Prado. We were originally searching for a car that has low maintenance /service requirements, built like a tank, can take pretty consistent uphill climbs (mostly paved, but some are terrible and rocky), no bells and whistles/straightforward, and can be easily fixed if problems arise. That landed us on the Prado.

For this country and its prices, we can afford the 2007 or 2008. The issue is that we want as little to go wrong as possible, ie- no bells and whistles and like we said before, built like a tank. Our final question is the models here are listed as TX, TXL, and VX.

Any information you can send our way would be awesome.

Apart from the injector and injector seal problems I would go for a 2008. The early 2007 models had slightly poorer built injectors. They are a great car.

If you really want a tank get the older 1kz motor (proir to 2007) or a petrol

      Check out this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-a-07-09-Prado

      Injectors are the main problem.

I have the 2007 D4D and it is great
