  • 120 GX vs GXL

Hi all im looking at buying a 120 series diesel around 08 09 besides the massive price difference what do you get for your money between the GX and the GXL? Also do you guys /girls believe the difference is worth the extra money?
    cheers.

Hi cozza , I have an 08 120 D4D. I'm not over all the differences between the two. I'm pretty sure ABS was added as an option pack which works well( had to use it so I wouldn't T-bone a learner who pulled out in front of me). I don't have any traction control or fancy abbreviations. Maybe this means the driver has to drive more skilfully to compensate for no assistance. ( Or maybe I'm jealous). I'm not sure if a solid spare wheel cover is standard but if you upgrade to 70R aftermarket tyres this will probably not fit either. If you shop about I wouldn't think there would be a massive price difference. Oh I don't have climate and I think cruise was part of option pack. Either way I'm sure you'll be impressed with GX OR GXL as they both are excellent performing vehicles.
    Cheers Matt

'08-'09 GXL D4D auto with option pack was the best model 120 built. Extras include dual climate, traction/stability control, side airbags, rear air con the list goes on. Hence the big price difference. Is it worth it, absolutely.

Add in the GX with option pack 2 in the same build. Same animal with a couple of minor differences like no roof rails, no alloys.

Don't forget that there is the Standard model which is below the GX if you want to spend even less.

            Hey Cozza

I reckon go with what you want in the first place otherwise you want to kick yourself every time you pass one.

            Just my 2cents

I dont know if you have already bought one. I have a D$D 2008 GXL (110k on the clock) with all the extras. I only recently looked to buy a 150 series without going over the top on the extra dollars. None including the GXL are as nice. I even drove brand new Ford Rangers, Isuzu D Max etc and they are all not a nice as a Prado to drive.
As you would know the only other advice is to check the oil pick up, injectors as they have a history of problems. And check the idle in drive as the engine mounts can crap out and it costs up to $1000.00 to get them replaced. If it idles rough in drive it can be either injectors or engine mounts.
Over all great car and you wont look back.
