Keep a look at the mount system for both brands. My old 120 had the TJM unit and the mount was in the door jam, tearing the rubber and a bit of wind noise. The safari is mounted external on the pillar so no bracket in the door jam.

They both work as good as each other IMO.

    Rusty.

And I would always fit one just in case you need it.
08 VX D4D, Lift, Safari Snorkle, Trailblazer Fridge, Custom Storeage System, BFG, ARB Safari Bar, Wife, Kids, Codan NGT HF Radio, Debt.

What about ironman offering? It looks the same as the safari. But cheaper.

Re - pre-filter add-on - how much are we looking at for this extra? I assume it fits over the top (head) of the snorkel?

          $20-$50

Fits over the top or hanging inside unless you have an all in one design.

with the ironman and many other cheapies on ebay they are safari copies. Safari do all the R & D and manufacture them in Australia with good quality materials and are exported the world over, you just need to look at an older 4wd with an old safari to see how well they last.
with the chepies they copy a good product, in this case safari, make them in china or somewhere cheaper out of lesser quality materials, as for the ironman quality of material I don't know. with there bullbars they were very ordinary but have seemed to improved them does this relate to there snorkels I don't know.
personally for me I have a safari the motor is worth to much for me to gamble, and where I can I always try and buy Australian made.

hope this answers your question I'm sure if you google it you would be able to get a more informed answer.

So if I'm turning my car over every few years, the cheaper the better.

well then in my case I've had mine for 3yr now and I'm not planning on replacing anytime soon, and if I was I wouldn't be spending the money on it.
in your case as long as works I guess! short turnover becomes next owners problem

I heard Bunnings is a good place to buy stuff from, drill a hole and stick on some pipes but before you do make sure you Google or Youtube it.

Nope... I've only got the Prado and I'm not from Ipswich but will be moving to Brisbane. We will be purchasing a second car (Yaris or maybe a Corrolla) but not a fan of the Subaru Outback. You should post a photo of the wicked ghetto Outback, the vehicle that you speak highly off.
