  • 2005 Prado Grande

    Hey all,

Just wanted to ask if I got a good deal @ auction.

Picked up a 2005, Grande, 146,000km for $17000, after auction fees.

Drives well so far, just waiting for the first trip to the mechanic for the check up.

That is what I was thinking, so far love the ride.

After my local mechanic gives it the once over it is time to see its true potential.

The condition is not immaculate, got a little rust on the sun roof and seat wear and tear. But overall for 7k bellow market these superficial items are not noticeable. Engine seems to be running well @ 12L/100 so far.

Unfortunately a lot of the Grandes suffer from this fate. There are a few threads on it inc Kevdebbi's build up http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post466968

You can self fix it if you like, don't pay the Toyota Tax: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post468600

I'm assuming it's a petrol, you don't say. The KZ's go for slightly more. Still I reckon its a good deal. The rear air bags will need replacing in a year or two as the rubber perishes. Look for aftermarket or a 'foreign supplier' of originals. You can get a good upholsterer to restore the seats although admittedly this job is not cheap. Both the KZ (diesel) and the V6 petrol get good reviews and you won't be paying @2.5K for popping injectors every year or two.. Safe travels.....

With the comment that it's running at 12L/100, it sounds like a diesel to me

It is a petrol, admittedly I have been very light on the gas. I was surprised for it to stay at 12 perhaps with time and a heavier less concerned foot it will climb to 15L/100 ?

@ Macaroon1 .. thanks for the links and the information. It is a whole new world for me owning a prado, graduating from a Mitsubishi 380. Now all I need to do is take it off road. Do you guys have any suggestions for off road tyres (and if they are worth it considering I will just be doing the odd 4wd weekend)

D697 are pretty good. I got mine from Don Cornell tyres. Can't complain at just over $200 ea. I'm yet to fit them on.

265/65R17 Bridgestone D697 can be had for $240 every day of the week, including fitting, balancing and disposal. Check at any Bridgestone dealer or Kmart tyre and auto. They are a great all terrain tyre, very good on the road in my oppinion and good off

15/100 sounds a bit more realistic, but i would still be happy with that
I'm currently in a 90 petrol and on the Stuart Hwy (130kph) and the cr@ppy roads out here along with lower tyre pressures i only get 16/100. Before coming out here, i was getting 18-20/100 for the city running but that was on gas.
I'll throw another tyre for consideration and that's the Yokohama Geolander GO12

                  Cheers

I think the couple of litres/100 extra is worth it to have the car looking and doing everything I want
Ie: roof cage/ bullbar tyres etc etc
                        I currently get about 15.5-16 l/100.
To the op I picked up my 03 petrol grande stock for $16000 with 142000 about a year ago so that price certainly seems fair.
