I reckon that Symo has nailed it.

I noticed a "drone" earlier this year when I took delivery of my new GXL diesel auto. I had come from ten years driving a 120 with 1kz auto.
It felt to me like the auto was trying to hold too higher a gear and that the D4D was "chugging" like a tractor at 1500 rpm.
It felt like it needed to kick down and do the job at 1800 rpm instead.
I was a little disappointed. The drone/chug wasn't befitting of a $60k toyota built in 2014. I found myself wishing for my 4speed 1kz at times.

Good news is that I only had the issue for a couple of months. Now I don't notice it at all. I don't know what changes, perhaps the motor loosens or the auto adapts, or perhaps it takes a while for the motor to learn how awesome (not) Australian diesel is? I have no idea - but mine was fixed with time/Kms.

Now I am super happy with my donk/auto combination and all the noises that it makes

Mine definitely got quieter after a few thousand kms. But I wouldn't have called it a drone, more like what you called it. Labouring.

I just took a brand new auto Prado GXL (had 11 km's) for a drive for a friend, had a loud constant droning noise pass 1500 rpm. It was annoying, specially when the stereo was turned off. I am so happy that I got a manual, it doesn't struggle driving up hill like the auto that I just took for a test drive.

          New Prado Price

hi all, newbie here looking for advice.

Looking to take a deep breath and buy a new GXL / Turbo Diesel / Auto / Silver/ with rubber floor mats / boot liner / tinted windows / full fuel tank / front parking sensors for $59K + gst. (2014 model )

          Advice needed :
          1) What's the gain in getting a 2015 plated car to a 2014 plated car? Is it just resale value at the end or is there something i am missing?
          2) Does anyone know if the 2015 car can be delivered by Feb in Vic? (anyone with knowledge of production and dealer delivery?)
          3) Is it better to buy a White (and is it cheaper to repair paintwork white?) VS buying a Silver Metallic
          5) Do you know if the price for the extra's "thrown-in" is a good price?

Thanks in advance, already found heaps on this forum to settle on buying a Prado

I've found that when driving up hill I usually use 4s. (I live in the hills so this is a regular ocourance). I also use 4s when driving around town at 60k's or less. Makes for a better drive.
