advice on buying an new 150 GXL/VX

Hey All,

I am currently looking to purchase a new Prado. It will more than likely be a GXL however i was wondering what peoples thoughts are with respect to the KDSS on the VX. This looks to be the main standout difference between the two models, other than the seats and satnav. If the price difference is not a big issue, is the feature really worth the extra?

I upgraded from my 120 to the 150 TD VX for the KDSS, the other extras were just a bonus. IMO its worth the extra $$$ (although its price range also attracts the luxury car tax). If you intend to dress yours up with all the fruit, it maybe more worth while to get the GXL and add what you want to it with the $$$ difference.

Hi Troy,

I had 2009 Prado 150 GXL petrol and last year bought new look 2014 Prado 150 VX Diesel.

VX is much better than GXL. KDSS makes huge difference but there are many other differences. Besides KDSS my favourite is its integrated systems with GPS which also has off road fire trails in its GPS mapping.

Go VX - it's worth the difference.

When we were looking for a 150 I wanted to get the VX because of KDSS (the other stuff wasn't really of much interest to us). While the dealer would negotiate on a GXL there was nothing available for the VX. It came down to the stock they had on hand and what was arriving. All the VX's were taken so no deals. Happy with the GXL but would have preferred a VX.

Maybe find a demo if possible, they are rare in VX though.

I just pushed the Go button on a GXL. Thanks for the advise around KDSS however the price difference is what help make the choice. I can use the money to add some equipment

Great choice TroyH. Just did the same thing, and PP helped me along that decision as well - so thanks for that (gotta love PP). Our new White GXL arrives in about 4 weeks - cant wait. What colour did you go for?

same here, big toss up between white and Silver. Went white. Not sure when mine will be available as yet though

Must be exciting to be waiting on a newie ,that new car smell, you will definitely need that extra coin you saved to spend on mods that you absolutely need( ok maybe want) if you keep reading on this site . Nice choice on white too because everyone knows white is definitely the best colour by far. 😀haha
