  • Buying a new 2015 Prado 150 GXL

    Hi guys.

I currently own a 2012 Holden Craptiva that's failed me way too many times over the past 3 years and after the latest problem it's got to the point where I can no longer trust the car to take me anywhere. As such I've decided to sell the Captiva and upgrade to a Prado. As a kid back in another country in the 90s my family used to own a Prado so naturally I'm attracted to it as I know how great they are.

I'm currently looking at a 2015 Prado GXL and was quoted $62,990 drive away at my local Toyota dealer. The $62,990 drive away is until the end of the month as you all know to clear out their current models in order to make way for the new 2.8L engine. However I'm also thinking of trading in my Captiva if they value it decently. It won't be anywhere near good as a private sale, however I'm not too fussed if they end up reducing the price of the Prado down a bit.

Anyway my question is, is $62,990 a good price for the current GXL? It's for the standard GXL with no optional accessories. The salesman has said there'll be room for negotiation once I pop in on Saturday and have a test drive before getting serious about buying it. I'm not too fussed about the new 2.8L engine with slightly better fuel consumption and slightly more power + the sat nav, if I can get a better price on the current GXL instead I'll be happy. Is it worth using this as a negotiation to get a lower price for the GXL? Saying that if they go down lower I'll buy the current GXL instead of waiting for the new one in 1-2 months time.

Or, is it worth just waiting for the new one instead?

Sorry for the generic questions. I tried asking on other forums but they all redirected me here and I figured as it's Prado related I'd be able to ask these related questions to you guys.

    Thank you for your time!

Have a look at this guy.
He's a broker who says he can get you a better price.
It would be interesting to see if he can get you a better price than the one you can get.

If you want trouble free motoring, don't tow and do mainly city driving, consider the petrol version. There are other threads on this topic too.

Agree. Petrol is a good choice.

Diesel is far more efficient than petrol with more distance between fills. Also better power for towing. Ive towed a 2500kg ATM Caravan from Brisbane, to Melbourne, Sydney etc. No issues sitting at 100kmh with the diesel. Would hate to see the fuel bill doing the same thing for a petrol. I'm also looking at the new GXL Auto arriving in August. Cant wait to test drive to see the difference.

What most people don't realise is a diesel make 3-4x more power at 1600rpm than a petrol. Because peak torque.

To make 130kw in the v6 you need nearly 4000rpm.

And the diesel...3400rpm. It is not about the kW, it's the Nm that do the work.

                      Hey guys,

Ended up purchasing the Prado GXL! Very very happy to be joining the Prado club .

Went for the Diesel model just as I have for my past 3 cars.

Dealer didn't budge much in terms of pricing. We tried low balling them hard and was at the dealer from 9AM and ended up negotiating until 2PM. Tried to add a few accessories as well but they didn't budge at all. Ended up getting it for $49,500 + full tank of petrol and floor mats after trade-in.

Didn't get near enough what I was hoping from the Craptiva but given the 2nd hand market for it I'm not too upset. We've been so frustrated with it that we simply just said screw it and went forward with the deal.

Not sure when the Prado will be ready for delivery. We want the navy blue colour and there's a new one at a nearby dealer but that one has a crapton of wear and tear both inside and outside so decided to ask one straight from the factory lot. Not sure when it will arrive, but hopefully soon!

Well done. Make sure you start a build thread once you have received your Prado.

                          Thanks mate, will do!

Guys I need a bit of help. I just got a call from the dealer saying the Prado will be ready to pick up on Friday. However I'm a bit suspicious because I think they're just going to try sell me the Prado that was on display at a nearby dealer that had scratches and general wear and tear inside and outside by various people inspecting the vehicle. I think they're going to fix everything up and tell me that the car came straight from the factory. To avoid this, I want to go to that dealer right now and to check the VIN number of that particular Prado to ensure that I do not get that one. So if they do fix it up and attempt to give it to me, I'll know.

Only problem is I don't know where the VIN number of the Prado is located. Could anyone please tell me? Thank you

I think if you look in the wheel well on the front right there's a VIN or other number etched in to the chassis rail ? easy to see from memory.
