    Is Thailand's prices similar to ours normally for same models?

    If you consider that the new Hilux is listed over their Thai website @ 1.14m Baht which is around $44k Aussie. That is for the top of the wazza spec - diesel dual-cab with Auto. Their new Fortuner is 1.6m Baht which is around $61k Aussie as mentioned earlier. That means the new top spec Fortuner could be 38% more pricier than the new Hilux when it arrives in a couple of month. I reckon the new top spec Hilux will be around $55-60k drive away when it arrives so the new Fortuner could be very expensive when it gets here - could be $75-80k by those maths. Now way Toyota will sell any of them at that price though. Hopefully they can bring in the new model for fully specced at around $65k max. Time will tell though.

    So far the signs are not good.

      Depends how much fruit is in their top spec Hilux. Specifications vary country to country.

        I have to say as someone who was hanging out for the new Hilux to park next to the Prado and knowing they have had years to look at the competition and slaughter them with a Ranger sized more powerful and refined Dual cab ute the new Hilux details so far are more than underwhelming.
        I mean at the very basic level a Hilux with drum brakes still is nothing more than a joke. Its like Toyota have decided we can kick back now and produce any shite and people will buy it.

        I'll wait and see it come out but they need to lift their game all round and produce vehicles that made them who they are.

          My point was - that the price ratio between the Thai top spec Fortuner and the Hilux is nearly 1.40 to 1. The top variations will be minimal anyway. The other vehicle grades too are a similar ratio. If we put that same ratio for the new Hilux/Fortuner then the Fortuner looks like an expensive machine.

          PS - I'll bet my left nut the Thai top spec Hilux will very similar to the Aussie top spec - looking at both the Aussie and Thai websites - they look identical and the specs match. Any variation will be small. Same goes for the Fortuner. Australia is a premium market (for Toyota) so we nearly always get the top spec vehicles as well as some of the Pov packs. A lot of other countries certainly get much lower spec models than even our base models. The Prado is a prime example.

            Name a 1 tonne ute that doesn't have drums, I can and Toyota makes it.

            Everyone else uses drums, the 70 series has discs. Not sure what your trying to say?

              I like them. I want to get one for the wife for her work car. Bit of lift, bullbar, bigger tyres. I think they'll come up looking great. Only issue, as already mentioned is going to be the range with the smaller tank.

                What I am trying to say is its about time they got Disc brakes all round. I'm also keen to see a Ranger, BT50 or Hilux dual cab with 1 tonne in the rear?
                You can name a ute in this category that's good for 1 tonne and is made by Toyota? Don't include 4x2 utes because we aren't talking about 4x2 utes.

                  60-70% of braking is done by the front;
                  Drums are cheaper to manufacture;
                  Drums can function as a handbrake very simply, whereas discs need a parking separate system. Again cheaper

                    Any 70 series, 1 to 1.2T standard and can be legally upgraded to nearly 2T. Plus it can tow its full 3.5T with 1T loaded, only vehicle that can do this.

                      Oh yeah no worries my mistake. I thought we were looking at the same class of vehicles around Hilux, Triton, Navara, Ranger and BT-50 category. I didn't realise you meant over $75,000 starting price V8 dual cabs were in that segment.

                      I'll keep that in mind. Thanks

                        Over $75,000 starting price???
                        Me thinks you need to find a new salesperson.

                        I personally wouldn't wouldn't tow 3.5t with any other ute than a cruiser. Everything else is lacking in the stopping and going department!

                        Oh, and how does a top of the range GXL ute with top of the range steel tray, ARB bar and all the plastics drive away for $68k sound? What's the top of the range Ranger go for???

                          Changing the current discussion a bit, I understand the new Fortuner, Hilux and Prado all share the same 2.8l diesel engine.

                          I also understand that the engines will have a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

                          Is the DPF instead of the EGR or in addition to the EGR system ?

                          Cheers,
                          Mal

                            If I was to guess I would so no as they serve two different purposes on the engine as far as I can tell. EGR reduces the Nox emissions by lowering the the burns temps or something and the particulate filter is simply a soot catcher. Google may be a better choice for a better answer though.
