    • Hi all, long time Lurker who recently sold his beloved 95 series TX manual has just signed up for a new GX, manual 5 seater with towbar and full set of mats (including cargo mat) for $53k driveaway in Melbourne.

Many thanks to all those have contributed to this thread as the information gained was invaluable in getting a good idea of what I should be paying. I appreciate there may be another grand more discount if you have the patience - but I was happy with the negotiated price. September delivery - so now I can shift to planning the early build mods...

        • Trading our 2009 Tarago V6 (63500km) in on a Prado gxl t/d auto.
Want to get tow-bar, rubber mats and roof rack and extended warranty.
First quote has come in at $45900 changeover.
Is this a good deal, basically offering no real discount on the $64,000 driveway advertised price and giving us $20,000 or so for the Tarago which hurts a bit since I paid $33,000 two years ago.
My temptation is to cut my losses and get into the Prado that I anticipate keeping for a long, long time.

You will always lose money when trading a vehicle. Realistically you would be better selling privately and then negotiating best price on the vehicle seperately. You try one of those buy your vehicle companies if your after a quick sale as they will likely give you a better price than the dealer. I was quoted as low as 21k trade in on my Prado. Through by my Toyota I was offered 29k but sold private for 33k. Give it a go you never know.

            • Still going backwards and forwards with various dealers. Has anyone had experience with the extended manufacturers warranty. I am interested but a dealer is quoting $2100 for 3 years/ 50000km.
Is it worth it for a Prado or better off spending the money on accessories?

Have they explained to you that you can extend the manufactures warranty as long as you are still within the new car warranty. Ie At 2 years and 11 months you can still extend the warranty and cost is very similar. It might be better to wait till then and see if you are having any issues. I would how ever suggest going the TOYOTA roadside assistance it costs approximately 300 for 3 years but it covers all breakdown situations including car hire, accom if away and even caravan towing to nearest dealer. Good luck with the purchase. Have you considered the VX? Has some nice extras that make that little bit more special.

I believe you can get it cheaper by purchasing directly from Toyota, the Finance area if memory serves me correctly.

I wasn't told about being able to purchase the manufacturer's warranty, I'm the 2nd owner but car was still in new car warranty period when I bought it. I was only offered the dealer's one which I took up, it was only $650 or so but has a lot of exclusions. I have only had to claim a starter motor on it and a couple of minor things so I'm still in front. That warranty has since expired so I'm now free to service wherever I like.

                  • Thanks for the info guys.
Ended up querying the extended warranty and sure enough it was $1900 of the $45900 c/o price. Might as well get Toyota Ultra care roadside assistance for $117 per year and then just buy the extended warranty IF required before the 36 months is up.
Current deal I am being offered is 44k c/o with rubber mats, towbar and roof-racks.
Basically about 1k of extras on top of the 64k advertised price and 21k for the tarago. I know they are just dipping into the profit margin in a small way.
Interested if people think this is a good deal and how much more I could get them down to.

Your Tarago is worth 26 to 28k private sell. I would be pushing them down to 40 to 41k chnage over. Remember you can shop around and a lot of dealers are desperate at the moment.

                        Regards

                        • Thanks for the info. Will play a few dealers off and see how I go. Out of interest which suburb or area of Melbourne have you seen prado's for 61k d/a?
I might go and have a look.
Might look into a roadworthy for the tarago try my luck.
                          Cheers

                          • Well for better or worse i signed up for a a white GXL with a few rubber mats, tow bar, roof rack, bike rack for 44k changeover for our 2009 v6 tarago.
I had identical changeover figures from 3 different dealers in our area so decided that it was a fair price.
I think i needed to spend about 1000-1500 to get the tarago roadworthy and might have got 25k ish private sale.
So I probably got hammered on the trade-in but it is down with no stress and I will be free to enjoy the prado in time for the school holidays and for years to come so the few k I dropped should disappear over the next 10 years or so.
Looking forward to hitting the road and exploring Australia with the kids. Thanks for everyone's advice to date.
                            Now for the aftermarket additions....
