The tint guy tried to sell me on clear tinting for the privacy glass. I thought about it but was a little skeptical as to whether it was really worthwhile.

The clear tint that is offered has IR protection which is the energy that heats up the car. You should select tinting based on IR rejection.
Side glass may contain some uv protection but it's not anywhere near 99% that tint can achieve.

Given that we take most of your GST revenue I guess you guys need to make up the shortfall with higher stamp duty.

Test drove a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee today.
My advice? Don't.
It will make your Prado seem like a wallowing, underpowered, crude pos that was built 15 years ago.
I seriously wish I hadn't driven driven it. Ok, the Disco 4 was very impressive as well but at least I could console myself with the $20k price difference. But the Jeep is the same price. Maybe less after haggling.
It's no wonder with 185kw and 570Nm under the lid and an 8 speed tranny to smooth out any residual diesel harshness. Put your foot down in the Jeep and it rockets forward effortlessly. I wasn't expecting the difference to be so great.
On road handling is again far superior to the Prado. Solid and reasonably dynamic. You feel you could actually drive it with some enthusiasm and be rewarded. Not as taught as my current drive, an R36, but pretty good for a 4bee. The steering wasnt super precise but was nice and light and once you got used to it, it'd be fine.
So off road must be where the Toyota kicks Jeep butt? Maybe and of course I can't test that. But, adding the $4k off-road kit gives an electric rear diff, fully adjustable and self levelling air suspension and some extra underbody protection. I suspect there wouldn't be that much in it for 90% of punters.
Styling is subjective but if you're passing, have a look at the Black Hawk in the showroom on Scarborough Beach Rd. It looks the biz IMO. Inside is equally impressive. Compared to the Prado the Grand Cherokee is 4wd porn.
So any downside? Well it's only a 5 seater. But the real downside is it isn't a Toyota. The Jeep's reputation for reliability is a million miles behind the Prado. Servicing is a bit dearer, parts holding in Aus not great and the service centre network is relitively poor compared to Toyota outside of metro. They counter all that by having 10 loan cars available.
So the big question, am I going to buy a Jeep. I'm going to go home and take a cold shower. Tonight when I sleep I'll be dreaming of a Jeep. But when I wake up and face reality, I'll still be buying a Prado.Last edited by neilaction; 15-10-2015, 06:36 PM.

Because it already has UV protection???
99% of windshield are not coated by law, they have to be completely clear.

You know how Google tries to predict what you're searching for as you're typing?
Well these predictions are based on previous searches by all Google users.
Jeep lemon comes up as soon as you type L.
Prado lemon doesn't appear until I got to M.
And in the end that's why I'll buy a Prado.

I like Jeeps. Without them I might have to hate something that has a few redeeming features. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Told you Neilaction. Driving one will make you cream your pants. If it wasn't for resale and 7 seats, Prado wouldn't sell. V8 performance and an interior and exterior to die for... Thankfully reliability is iffy. That's why Prado sells like hot cakes in the bush. But did I mention it's a bloody rocket?????
