"It's built rugged for the bush but the new Prado will spend more time on city roads". "The Kakadu is far more likely to be spotted on a suburban school road than deep into the namesake national park in the Top End." Paul Glover reviews the new Kakadu @ $84,490 and says it still feels slow and sluggish. "It's very slow off the mark, is not great for overtaking and needs pushing to hold at 110km/hr on the freeway. It's a reality that the vast majority of 4WDs, even Prados, do not go off road. So a lot of the gear in the car - from the low-range super-grip transmission to the giant wheels and heavyweight tyres - is wasted as extra mass." He is also critical of the lower tow rating compared to other similar vehicles in the market. "And it feels, well, old."

He is on the money. Introduce a proper twin turbo 6 cylinder diesel instead of reworking go-cart engines. my washing machine has more power and is more reliable than my D4D or the 2.8l replacement.Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money!

The only mention of the V6 is that the diesel is $1000 dearer.Dave

OK, so he wants an SUV or cross-over or whatever you want to call it, not a proper 4WD. I would be very disappointed if they got rid of the ladder chassis or made it less 4WD, there's already a ton of other options if thats what you want. As for a more complex diesel engine, are you sure? I'd like more power sure, but there's already enough complexity.Steve

The point he was making was that there was nothing special about the 2015 model that Toyota was singing and dancing about. We had the facelift model last year so apart from the lack-lustre 2.8 engine there really is nothing to set it out from the previous models.Dave

Sunday Times (WA) ran another story with a comparison between new Prado, Fortuner and Ford Everest. Prado got bagged for being out-dated, lacking technology and lacking power when towing. The Everest got the big tick in all areas except for being a little noisy below highway speed.Dave

I drove Everest and Prado back to back. Prado was head and shoulders nicer vehicle. Ford felt cheaper, smaller, noisier. The turn signal noise itself was enough to put me off. Ford interior switch gear is not as clear or easy to operate. Massive sunroof did not really appeal. Third row seats were not as tidy as Prado. And I wanted to like the Everest, Rangers are great and proven reliability in our fleet. But I'll be in a new 2.8 Prado unless Jeep come in hell cheap to lease.
