  • Convince me: Petrol or Diesel Auto GXL

Okay guys, new member, first time poster: the burning question is this.

I have decided on a GXL Prado - impressed with the diesel and petrol models on all counts. Have read some negative posts on the dsl fuel quality affecting the D4D motor for some (causing noisy running) and have read some negative posts on the fuel economy of the petrol.

Convince me one way or the other. I will be doing roughly 25-30 K per year 70/30 split highway/city. No towing and mild to moderate off road.

    Cheers
    Jonesy

Go petrol and get LPG tank fitted, diesel is getting far too dear. Or if you do choose Diesel go LPG as well.

6months ago I would have said Diesel without hesitation. if your doing more highway kms & not towing Petrol would so smooth and oh so comfi. with decent consumption.

just a quick note re: dual batteries, ( I was gunna PM you but others may be able to help)

currently looking @ a ABR Sidewinder isolator (available on ebay) or a Redarc isolator which is pretty common with PPer's. Not sure if you need something more fancy on a new model as some salespeople suggest?!

            cheers

There is a number of threads on the Deisel VS Petrol thing already, it would be fruitful to have a read of them for past experiences and information.

I prefer the petrol, More power, faster, good economy.

bring out your inner hoon.. buy a petrol.

seriously tho, both are very good engines. Even the old diesel is ok when chipped.

high kms and towing = more than 30k a year = diesel

                low kms = petrol.

i get great economy from the petrol.

Thanks TP. I have been trawling this top forum for a couple of weeks now before joining and while was able to pick up lots of info regarding the petrol vs dsl arguement - I couldn't find the kind of feedback that I have been getting from this post.

Looks like I will be getting a quote for a petrol!

                  Cheers

The petrols are about 6k cheaper at the moment until the end of June i think, that is a lot of petrol.

When I ordered my Diesel GXL about this time last year, I think the Petrol was about $1000 less... I could be wrong, so now, the Petrol would represent good buying. I'm not sure what that change in price did for the resale of Petrol GXL's or what it says for the future, but 6k less is significant.
