  • Buying a second hand prado, could do with some input please

    Hey everyone

I'm looking at purchasing a second hand petrol 150 with about 130k kms on the clock.

I'm curious to know how many kilometres more I can expect to get out of that type of engine and how reliable they are, assuming it has been looked after. Would it be worth the risk? Are these engines fussy about being neglected too much?

Also, are there any other problems, driveline-wise, that can pop up around this point?

    Thanks all very much

The prado V6 is heaps more reliable than the D4D - guys reliably get 300,000 plus out of them without a drama.
The biggest issue people have with them is economy, but I have found mine pretty reasonable for a big vehicle!

What year is the Prado? No dramas so far with my V6 but it has only done 75,000kms in 6 years. I did have the tailshaft replaced under warranty because of the dreaded tailshaft clunk but that is the only driveline issue I have has so far (touch wood).

It's a 2010 model. Is it likely that its tailshaft has been replaced given its age and kms?
