  • things to look for when buying second hand

    Hi
I am looking at buying a 120 Prado and would like some advice on common faults/problems or signs on neglect.

Where should I be looking when inspecting a Prado for signs of wear, common rust spots etc.

What are some of the more common problems?

    Thanks

The most common problem would be emptying your wallet by reading about all the mods and upgrades that you read about on this site.

Beware, this site is addictive and can severely strain your finances.

My 120 is 3 years old now and not one problem or warranty claim.

    cheers,

    Dobbo

All in all very reliable cars ,I have mine for over four years and still going strong. On faults and defects I am currently having my inner guard liner access for a warranty claim which I believe have been fix on 2005models and up. so if you looking at any with a toyota bar on it( 2004 and older) check the inner guard liner that it isn't cut away. For further infor check the lcool website.

Ckeck for signs of cracking around the rear door hinge area and that the rear door has not dropped.

Tailshaft clunk on braking and stopping.
Rear door cracks (as advised above).
Cracks in engine bay (firewalls) as per instructions and info on this forum.

Anything to look out for with high mileage vehicles? A full service history is a must, but I'm looking for likely points of wear and things that made need attention at this point in the vehicles life.

I'm looking at a 2003-2006 diesel model due to the budget not stretching to a 150.

So far the mileages I have seen range from 150,000 - 250,000.
