  • What's the best way to find our 120 baby a good home?

I'm trying to sell our 120 auto D4D at present but interest is slow. It's got 208000 km on the clock, is a beautiful car, and is on Carsales for $23990. I think it's extremely well priced for a vehicle in really good condition with new Bridgestone 697's, new OME suspension, new Beaudesert exhaust, and a host of other great extras.
I'd appreciate any suggestions of what else I can do to get it in front of someone who could enjoy a Prado.
Maybe the ad should have also said the car has proudly worn a Pradopoint sticker since 2007.
    Any suggestions?

If I were in the market for a vehicle and was looking at 200,000km plus I would want absolute transparency on its history. If you could push the fact that any potential buyer would get a full run down on it's history then you can show that it is a better buy than a mystery car with 100,000km.

Thanks Jimmy. Good point. I've mentioned in the ad it's got a full logbook history from the local Toyota dealer, so I'll get out all of the documentation for anything that's been done on it for any potential buyer to inspect.

Honesty is the key. If the alternator broke, tell them, but also tell them about the repair/replacement. A cared for car is worth it.

          Hi,

Price - lower it if you want it to move quickly. I would think your at the top end for that age vehicle. I know there are others dearer but they probably aren't selling either. A friend in the business once quoted me "it's never the car thats wrong it always the price, everything sells if the price is right"

hard part is everyone wants the hamburger with the lot, but only want to pay for a hot-dog with mustard !!
what ever your price is someone is going to kick you in the ankles to get it for less

            just remember
doesn't take long when modifying one of these car to get in way deeper than you thought, and some of the things you might do might not suit others

some people want that blank canvas to get the car they want, others can't see the value in what you have done as it still looks like the same car
right up until you park it next to a stock one !!

            i know your frustration
i have over $30K in extra's in mine have it up for sale with 130K on the clock
cant get a call to see what it's all about, yes i am starting at a lot higher than you at $42K but $30K + $30k = $60k

i still love the car so i will drive it because it what i wanted to build and it does everything i want
( just need a bit more poke for towing our new van, but this will always be the issue you'll always want more !! )
2008 Dune D4D manual GXL update - with lots of fruit !! + Roma Razorback Off Road Van

I have recently tried selling a vehicle, not Prado, but to get rid of to make way for my Prado!

I had it on carsales, gumtree, carsguide, and every facebook buy, sell and swap page in my local area (bumped dailyish)

I had it up for a price, and people would offer 2, 3, 4, 5K lower than the listed price. (unbeknownst to me why someone would make an offer if they hadn't even inspected the vehicle), this will be frustrating, but you will eventually find a buyer, just look at what there is around every few days and adjust your ad accordingly. I originally found a buyer, and the car was picked up last night, it was on the market just over a month.

if you can afford to be patient, just be patient, if not, you may have to make a dramatic drop to the price, to grab the attention of buyers.

Thats the truth but when you have a thread on here on what price you can screw a dealer down to on a new one, it won't help second handers. When guys are saying 5k off a new one isn't enough, what do you think that does to one with 208000 kms on it?

                  Hi Jim,

I have always found buyers are very well educated with pricing, and have found I need to be just a bit under the price of anything else that is similar.
The other thing is if the ad is a bit old people start to wonder why it has not sold, does it have a problem?.

The best method I have found is to use Caresales, word the ad so it reads as just listed, have a heap of photos including things like keys, log books. I then edit the ad every week and change the photos, move them around etc. I also make the car available at any time for people to look at, and list a couple of locations people can inspect, eg work and home.

The real pain is those who ring arrange a time and then turn up late or never turn up. The whole selling takes time, my last Prado took 2 months but I got the price I was after in the end.

                  Good luck
                  Steve

To me it's all about the price.
Many on-line lookers set the search engine to suit their funds and you may be just out of their range.
I'd rather blow a grand than sit around waiting for tyre kickers who don't turn up.
Have just sold a performance car and extras mean zero when it come time to sell. You simply have to wear it, those great springs/shocks, winch, whatever will only realise a fraction of their install costs.
I set my price at the low end and she sold to the first phone call.
Did the whole sale over the phone using FaceTime. Took him for a drive, anything he wanted to see zoom in, the whole lot all over the phone.
I guess you have your reasons but she sounds like a keeper to me, why sell?

It's the uni students from UAE that give me the shites. They ring up and offer a fraction of what you want. I had 2 come around to look at an old Camry V6. They even got under the car and came out with greasy hands. I said what do you expect for 1500 bucks. I know they want reliable cars for pizza delivery.

I parked my 90 series on a vacant block in Kalgoorlie. Hadn't even got back to work and I had a call from a guy that wanted the car straight away, no haggling, didn't even want to test drive and he brought me the amount that I asked for after visiting the bank. Good 4WDs always get good money in the bush. Problem now is there are so many ex mining fourbies available and zero interest deals on new cars.

Interesting. I always found it odd when people buy things without seeing it...but yet they do. This I guess is a bit better than buying without seeing it.
