  • GXL Option Pack 1 worth it ??

    Everyone,

I was just after the members opinion on the option pack 1 that can be bought with the GXL Prado. This includes the Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control features. I know extra airbags goes without saying it would be a plus, but firstly how effective is the TRC and VSC for lose/off road conditions and secondly, I put it out there would I be better off saving the coin on buying this factory option and put the money towards say diff locks (100% traction!!) and recov gear etc :?: :?:

    Cheers, Wilson.

          Hi Gordon,

Yeah some positive things in the other thread also. Was your option pack factory fitted or dealer fitted before delivery??
In the other thread there semms to be conflicting stories as to how it is done.

          Cheers, Wilson

Opt 1 is well worth the money and I'll bet it'll be standard on the 2009 GXL.

Hey Wilson, I got the GXL D4D (of course) Auto with Option Pack #1. The Option Pack is factory fitting. This Option Pack includes Down Hill Assist, Traction Control, Stability Control, Side air curtains. I think this is all that comes with the option pack. The GXL now comes with rear air conditioning controlled from the rear of the centre console. So essentially, you have dual zone air in the front and rear zone air.
The traction control comes with open diffs as there is no need for LSD because if the tyre comes of the ground, then the traction control senses this and slowly rotates the tyre, thus sending more power to the other wheel on the ground. If you hit the centre diff lock, I believe the traction control is disabled.

Overall, it is a pretty capable car and I would not look at a Prado without Option Pack One (auto) if I was in the market for a new one again.

Gordon, do the side curtain air bags prevent front seat covers being put over the seats or do they drop from roof sill :?:

                    Cheers, Wilson.

Not quite right, its the stability control that is disabled, traction control is still available.

Air bags are in the side of the seats so you need to get air bag ccompatible seat covers. They will have an opening in the side for the airbag to deploy from.

i've got sheep skin seat covers that are designed for the seat air bags. There is a split in them to allow deployment. There is also the side air curtains that drop out of the trip above the side windows.

Gordon I too am looking to get dead sheep on the front seats. How well do they fit and do they alter the shape or feel of the seat at all? I also need the airbag compatible covers so where did you get them and how much?

                          thanks,

Hi Michael, I got the seat covers from Caboolture Seat Covers on the Eastern side of the highway. The seat covers are extremely comfortable, do not move and are airbag compatible.

I have never owned a set of sheep skin seat covers that dont move over time. They have been in the car for 3 months now and are in exactly the same place as where they were fitted. They are rock solid. They are fitted as part of the price and take about two weeks from order to fitment depending on how busy they are.
