  • Assistance before buying

I have just found this site after chatting with one of the Toyota Sales Managers on the weekend.
I am looking to trade in my SR5 Hilux(previous model) and purchase a new GXL Prado.
I have a few questions, which I hope some of you will be able to provide some answers, or atleast some suggestions.

    1) With the current special Toyota have on petrol Prado's, should I even consider the diesel??
    2) Tyres... I have Mickey Thompson FCII on the Hilux, and love them, but am considering Cooper ST's for the new vehicle as a swap on purchase. Are there any issues with these tyres?
    3) With a visit to ARB prior to pick-up, the boys will be installing ARB delux bar with additional lights inset into bar, dual battery and additional plug in rear of car(original WAECO plug) for WAECO 80ltr fridge. I would like to have some spot lights installed on the bar, can you please recommend whihc lights, IPF or Lightforce???

I look forward to getting the car before the birth of my first child in a few weeks time. Please note that I have access to a diesel should the advice suggest this would be the best way to go

    Thanks for your help

David, if you intend on doing lots of ks and using the vehicle for towing, then consider getting the diesel. It has better fuel economy and probably better resale value. I couldn't comment on the Cooper tyres as I'm not particularly fond of them. The lugs on the ST are known to shear off on rocky terrains and you will need to read the fine prints very carefully on the tyre warranty. If you are upsizing from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17, then consider the Mickey T MTZ or a set of Maxxis Bighorn (budget mud terrains).

I just got a new diesel. I shopped around extensively for either petrol or diesel and in the end there was virtually no difference in the price and the delivery was 1 week different. Diesel was the go. Besides the savings on fuel, it's the resale which will make a big difference in a few years time. I now drive both the petrol and diesel (yes, I'm greedy but the petrol will be sold soon) and am surprised at how well the diesel goes compared to the petrol (highway mainly).

If you are getting accessories as part of the purchase, be careful not to exceed the Luxury Tax threshhold as you'll pay 33% extra for every $ spent over this limit.

          Guys,

Thanks for your help. I am just waiting to get the final pricing from a few dealers, and then will go ahead with a purchase.

Looking forward to getting the car out there amongst it all.
