  • 120 VX vs Grande

So I'm still looking at 120 Prado's and I'm trying to decide between a VX or Grande.

Are Grandes worth the extra few thousand over the VXes? I'm looking at post 2007 models and I've counted out GXLs as I want all the extra airbags as it will be a family moving during the weekend, and 4x4er on the weekend

    Thanks guys

I had a 120 VX V6 for 8 years and 150000 km. Great car. No air bags in rear suspension to go bang and no rusty sun roof. That said , the VXs are less common.

I've had a 2005 Grande for 6 years and I like the airbag suspension, particularly the self levelling, but I feel I could live without it, if I didn't have the rear height control I'd just get a decent 50mm lift. I also like the adjustability of the drivers seat (but a shame the passengers seat isnt the same). With the Grande you also get a few features like downhill assist control that are electronic solutions to problems that are met in the GXL (and VX I think) in more mechanical ways and through more active driver intervention - I don't use many of these features but this will be a personal choice. I could definitely do without the Grande's sunroof or the fridge in the centre console - would rather have this as larger storage space.

I've had a Grande for over 10 years. No rusty sunroof. And not popped an airbag, did have a slow airbag leak once but that was fixed easily. Replacing a bag was literally 10 minutes work.
The fridge is handy I find. And I like The fact I don't fill the centre console with crap.

Depends on what you can find to buy and how much you want to spend.

I also like the self levelling suspension. I toe a lot with it and having it even itself out is great.
Also handy if you have to go under a low car park.

I have a Grande 120, replaced the Tems shocks when I got it ,new springs in front (small lift) and raised the airbags slightly (replaced these as well) and I love being able to dial in soft or sport (believe this is dampening control on suspension) when off road/on road, after years of either too soft or hard ride in 4wd drive this is a option I am still surprised people remove (unless they hardcore 4wd each weekend) sunroof is ok only use it rarely.

Yes, there appears to be more VXs than Grandes. And sometimes the Grande is cheaper.
