  • First time Prado buyer looking at D4D...

Hi, I am looking to be a first time Prado buyer and Toyota for that matter, so apologies in advance for being a novice and so many questions. I have had a good look through this site which has been very helpful, thanks. I have had a 1990 GQ Patrol previously which is getting a bit long in the tooth and needs a refresh. It has a Petrol/LPG combination which is still going very well for me.
What I am looking to buy is a used Prado that is under 3 years old. I drive about 15000kms per year. 70% of this driving in inner Melbourne in non peak traffic hours. 30% of this is country driving/touring/camping etc. The 4WD will do some longer trips (months) every few years (add additonal 5000-10000kms) and will go around Australia at some point. I intend to keep the vehicle about 10 years or more. If any towing requirement it would be an off-road trailor, fold out tent and a tinny for fishing on the long trips only otherwise the tinny might be on the roof.
I am leaning toward buying Prado GXL D4D, and getting after market leather interior added as I can’t justify a Grande. Does anyone have any advice on how much it costs, type of leather to get and where to get it done?
I am also considering getting LPG added afterwards to the D4D engine. I presume this will invalidate the Toyota factory warranty, does anyone know if that is the case?
I am not over attracted to the additonal power performance of LPG but rather less $ from the bowser. With my combination of driving does any have a view or experience on getting better $ performance on an LPG/D4D combination, for example could I get 20% less $ from the bowser?
The information on this site indicates that you get to keep your two Deisel tanks and they add a small gas tank. Does this effect clearance and has the additional tank had a negative impact in any way on the vehicle. Does anyone have any advice on how much it costs and where to get it done in Melbourne?
Over the last 3 years have there been any significant changes to Prado D4D engines or Prado in general that should be considering as part of my buying rationale.
Just to throw a spanner in the works as I have never owned a Diesel vehicle previously and given what I want the vehicle for, are there any opinions out there that say I should be going Prado Petrol/LPG and if so why? :?
