rack (unless you know that i can get an after market rack installed for a lot cheaper).

living in sydney.

i'm working on a couple of dealers right now, and i want to know the best possible drive away price i can aim for (and expect) out of them.

any ideas?

The state govt fleet price is about $45,200
Dealer deliver, say $1000
Reg/CTP $750
stamp duty $1600
extra's excluding rust thing $550
Total drive away $49100

So, anything under 50k with your rust thingo is pretty Ok Id reckon

Just tell em, you have 50k and not one cent more...what can they do?......especially close to end of month when they are scrabbling around for the last few sales to meet quota OR when they have one on floorplan to offload, then they deal

amazing the divergence of quoted prices i've received up to now.

i've had a $62,900 quote and a $58,400 quote. for the $62k quote, i told the guy to come back when i hear $50k, he's come back with $52k ("there's NO way we can do $50k) so i'll go see him on the weekend and see if we can work something out.

i've never seen a dealership owner in the poor house.

Plenty of people are buying the TD GXL with some larger extras for the 51k mark.
The petrol is around the same, as they usually sell a couple dollars cheaper than the TD though sometimes they go the other way too.

I have seen plenty advertised recently at 49900 (no onroads) this would equivilate to around 53-54 with onroads.

As stated earlier, i know of people that have driven away with extras for 51k and less.

As a note, mats are bugger all. 130 bucks for the set (carpet) Rubber, 38 bucks front, 38 bucks rear, 120 bucks cargo approx.
Tint, get it done lesewhere, they charge 3 times what its worth.
Rust proofing, unless your living on the beach I wouldnt bother.
Rack, you need to ring around.
Headlight/bonnet protectors, bugger all. get them on ebay cheap if you need.
The dealer "should" be prepared to throw in the stuff above for nothing if he is gonna rape you on price like it sounds they are trying!

Mate, If you've been told $52k after haggling down from $62k, go get it, and start enjoying it, I didn't bother shopping around different dealers, I went to the Central Coasts biggest dealer, told him what I wanted, added a few accessories and paid the man and have been totally enjoying it now for over a month. Paid $54k with mats, tints, towbar, rustproof and extended warranty for 5 years. $52k is a good price for what you want.

The bottom line is: If you are happy to pay what they want, and do pay it then you can drive it away and enjoy it.If your happy at 52 k, buy it, if not keep haggling.

Dont do like a mate of mine did, and haggled for 6 months, then finally got a dealer to sell him one at what he wanted to pay.

3 weeks later another friend got one a grand cheaper thru a different dealer.

Now the previous one is kicking himself and stewing over a grand ! and in the mean time has admitted he isnt happy with the car anymore as someone else managed to buy the same cheaper....... :roll:

Find a price your happy to pay and pay it.

If you are waiting till Nov 1 I would be ordering one with the new diesel motor then.

After driving the D4D motor, I would NEVER buy an older prado motor!

They are chalk and cheese!

i don't want the diesel though. there's no point for me because:

1) i don't tow anything (and i won't in the future)
2) unless you get manual, diesel and petrol have same mileage
3) i like the kick in the petrol
4) the new motor will make the TD be priced at a premium.

unless i'm incorrect in any of my assumptions above, i'll stick to the petrol. i'll be choosing and buying something this weekend.

Sorry, my mistake, I went petrol as well, I think my mind is warped because everyone I know or have come across wants diesel!

I tow a WRX on a car trailer and the petrol is fine with it.
My mate tows same on a TD prado and it cant keep up at all!
Even a Hilux with the D4D motor eats him towing same type of trailer and car with a uteload of wheels and spares !

Hey Piggy 209 posts go hard!, no one is even close to you.

Sure petrol is always going to eat a diesel but there is no way your petrol is going to come close to the d4d motor in fuel mileage.
So if money on fuel isn't a problem go petrol.

On a different matter have you done any suspension mods to your grande?. As i have a grande and want to put a bullbar and other things on, so i guess i may need to lift suspension.

You may have already covered this in other posts but there is so many i thought it would be easy just to ask.

I guess you could say I am one of the original members of this forum so have a lot of posts.

Darren at ATS 4x4 in Geelong is the man to talk to, I have a set of his retainers to stop the rear end on the Grande overflexing so to speak and creating a possible airbag falling out situation! :shock:

He also does a higher spring for the front, you can keep the original shocks (electronic) but naturally they wont be *as* good as the bilsteins he sells.

Myself, its standard height for now, may lift it later, though I may give this one to the wife and buy myself a VX to play with.

The rear is raised on the airbags and from what i gather doesnt need any type of extra gear put in? (I originally thought Darren supplied some type of spacer, but after further talks think it is an adjustment on the switching that controls airbag height)?

Apparently a tricky adjustment and best not played with by amatuers as the switches break easily....

So all in all sounds like a lift is as easy as front springs and rear adjustment! Cheap at half the price!

I aint gonna go into the petrol economy argument, but I am reguarly getting into the 12l per 100 on the highway, and on a combination of towing /city/highway I have been able to get 13.6 litres per 100 a couple times!
Take away the expensive diesel servicing and i know what i'll buy next again!

I think i need a job like yours if you can afford to get a vx prado as well!!.
Geelong is a long way to go, however he may be able to put me on the right track. Or know someone that knows what they are doing in Qld.

He has guys that can do it for you in most states I think? I know he has an ADL guy just up the road from me.

He is worth trying, as he seems to know the most about the prados, and some of his bits (Air bag retainers) etc, are only avaliable from him!
