GXL or Grande

After opinions. I am about to trade my Discovery TD5 and move to a Prado ( making full use of Uncle Kev's 50% tax deduction for small business)
Just after opinion on whether the Grande is a worthwhile upgrade on the GXL given the extra cabbages needed to pay for it.

Will not be very much serious 4WD work. Perhaps a bit of beach work at Robe and trips to Eyre peninsula.

Depends what you are going to use it for.

You can add an awful lot of extras to a GXL and still spend less than a Grande.

GXL + Option pack is almost a VX (minus leather and power seats) the other things you get in the Grande are sunroof, trip computer, cooler, air suspension, nav, rear camera

My choice - GXL + Option Pack + ARB play money

If you dont have the money you cant do it

Trying to get a GXL this side of the end of financial year will probably make the decision for you. When I bought my GXL a few weeks back I couldn't get a diesel for love nor money...petrols were abundant tho do depends on what you are after.

What are the Grande leather seats like? Are they genuine leather or some sort of pseudo leather? Just wondering because I too am of the opinion that buying mid range and optioning up is the way to go. The final revision of the GXL's weren't too shabby at all. Seats are a huge consideration though because I do find on long trips the GX seats get a little uncomfortable. My seat covers have fixed the problem somewhat as they have extra padding. If ever I come across some fully adjustable Prado seats from a higher model though I'd seriously look at them to replace the ones I currently have.

I have been driving my new VX around for about a week now and would have to say that the seats are much more comfortable than the GXL ones (had a GXL for 6 years). My friend also mentioned he thought the VX seats were possibly wider than the GXL ones. The VX is worth the money at the moment due to the RUD 50% offer.

Through my powers of deduction what you are REALLY trying to say is that people who buy VX's must have fat arses because they are business execs where as the GXL is for the working class man who is trim and fit with a small bum... No? :mrgreen:

'Not sure about the seat widths, but I agree the Grande seat is very comfortable and great for long trips. I have a small bum.

We wanted to buy the GXL but the major factor that lead us into a VX purchase was the lack of seat height adjustment. My wife is a little less tall than myself... if you get my drift.....
For her, sitting in the VX seat made all the difference to her visability when driving. Every thing else was a bonus.
The other reason is that we got a great drive-away price for the VX which was almost exactly the same as a "list" drive-away price on a GXL.

Thanks for the input.
The adjustment and comfort of the seats on the VX or Grande is something to consider.
The other variable is that the new model is now due in November so might wait until the specs are released on the new models before I purchase. Is a 7 week wait for any stock on current models so hopefully there may be an announcement by then on what the new models hold.

I agree with most other posts, that the seats are great in the Grande.
I bought mine in Feb, but didn't get to collect it until July :? Told the dealer I could build a house quicker, but to be fair, I had to go to 6 dealers to find a Grande D4D to test drive, so I figured there'd be a wait.
I ended up with the Grande coz of all the fluffy bits (sat nav, camera, seats etc.) and I love it. There are a few niggles I have, but I've been told in other posts to grow a pair or buy a Fiesta, so I'll keep them to myself.
Like you, most time in city traffic, or sealed roads, and only the odd trip off the black stuff or in snow, so round the town comfort was a big factor.
Some might argue that the GX or GXL is more suited to off-road because of weight and the like, but that suited me for the reasons above.
You won't be dissappointed in the Grande (or any Prado), missing a few luxuries available in other Toyo's but luxurious none the less.

ps. my wife is "vertically challenged" too, so the height adjustment makes perfect sense to us.
pps.. I have a small bum too :shock:
