which is the most trouble free diesel prado?

Is there any model Prado that I should be looking for, like ,trouble free,reliable. Are there any models to avoid? 50,50 off road use.

I had a 1998 GXL V6 petrol from new until February this year that had no major issues. Replaced shocks several times, replaced starter in 2009 and radiator in 2008. Other than that it perfermed faultlessly and the current owner is still impresed by it's capabilities. My brother has a 2000 t/dsl GXL that, apart from an electrical fire under the bonnet caused by a faulty igniton switch, has also performed faultlessly. He's just bought a brand new t/dsl 150 series GXL and given the old girl to his son.

My 09 t/dsl auto GXl is a dream to drive and does everything I would expect of a car for the price. The D4D produced since 2008 appear to have escaped some injector issues that were common on the early versions. 03 - 06 models seem to be experiencing cracking dashboards.

Aside from that there doesn't seem to be any major hassles with the later models. And now we shall see how the 2010 150 series goes.

If you stick with the latest model that you can afford you really can't go wrong. There's plenty of dialog on this forum with stories on various problems, modifications and solutions.
