I have been on carsales.com and found a few that match or better my spec around. I am now contemplating going the whole hog and getting a Grande, which I can have in a week or so.

    Anyways, we'll see what happens.

Out of interest, what price are they offering to sell you the Grande for??

    • That'll be one of the deciding factors; it's a different dealer so I guess I can't expect a huge discount.

      • This is all a bit silly, I have telephoned every dealer in a reasonable distance (ie the east coast) and nobody has any spare GXL (with the Option Pack) or VX D4D Prados available.

There are a few Grande's about, but I feel certain I cannot justify the extra $18K for things I did not really want in the first place.

The problem is, there is (in my mind at least) no real alternative to the Prado, I have been through an exhaustive process of eliminating other vehicles like Land Rovers, Nissans and Mitsu's.

Anyways, looks like my March build should realistically be in my possession around May. So 3+ months of waiting to go.

        • Hi Halojump,
There has been just about every method thought of to get a Prado quicker as mentioned on PP. There is yet to be a proven method except luck.
In the end a 3 month wait is as quick and commonly as fast as it happens.
Depending on your mods, accesories, and colours it can take longer. Also the dealers help can make a difference on delivery times.

          • Well Folks, it's here!!

1x Charcoal D4D GXL*, picked up this afternoon

            Fitting Next week:
Sov Alloy Bull Bar and winch, Snorkel, 2" lift with king springs, bilstien shocks and poly airbags. Spotties and a uhf radio.

On Order; Black Widow drawers, fridge slide, half cargo barrier and rear divider.

Would already have the bull bar and winch on her except toyota has run out of cradles, the dealer had to source one from Darwin and have it expressed down (if you're in the Top End and the cradle you've ordered has gone mising ... sorry). You would be thinking somewhere in toyota land someone would notice the bull bar/winch/cradle ratio was a bit lopsided :?:

Hope all who are waiting for their new Prado to arrive get them soon and are as happy as I am

            Jim

                • Thanks Guys,
Yeah the BFG's ... put on before I even saw the car. The salesman asked me why the change and wanted to know what was wrong with the other tyres. I told him we were taking the car off-road so needed better tyres and he looked a little puzzled. When I told him that I was putting in new suspension etc.. he kinda appeared a little pale. Go figure?

see you all in the my rig post soon,

                  • Hi guys,

I went to the Motorama Group 4x4xmore at Salisbury yesterday to get a price and test drive a D4D. They only had ONE diesel prado of any grade. It was a dark blue GXL D4D auto.

The dealer told me that the reason the cars have a MINIMUM 3 month wait is because the D4D is now the same as the Hilux (Which we all knew) and the Hiace and a few other overseas vehicles.

So they can build the vehicles quick enough, they just can't suply engines!!!

Just for the record, this was my first drive in a Prado, and I was really impressed. It had a lot more get up and go than I thought.

                    • I have heard the D4D thing many times about a 3 month wait, but did you ask if the petrol would arrive any quicker. I am sure it would take that long too., just the D4D might take longer.

                      • I have been to a few dealerships down here and they have auto V6's everywhere. Probably due to popularity for city driving.

Before coming down here, I went to Mackay Toyota who had ONE Prado in stock. It was a black V6 auto GXL. I asked the dealer if we could drive it to get a feel for it. He said that they haven't been getting them very often and the one on the floor sold in 2.5 hours. The owner wanted a silver manual D4D. He settled for a black V6 auto so he didn't have to wait!

                        Paid full price too!!!

                        • Yeah come to think of it I did test drive a petrol V6 just for the feel, so I spose if I wanted one that day I would have bought it off him. Lucky cause I ended up with the first upgrade model in town and possible the nation.

                          • Hi All
I have ordered a D4D Auto GXL on 3 December 07 and have just been told that the expected delivery date is amended from March to May !!!!
anyone else experiencing that sort of timeframe for cars ordered in December 07..

On another note, I suspect the whole story about "cant get enough D4D engined prado's" is a sales tactic. Given the D4D engine has been available in US/Europe since 05. I suspect its a plot to keep the prices high for a car in big demand here. If Toyota Australia was to order large qty's like other manufacturs/dealers then there wouldnt be this demand...
The Hilus and HiAce vans and mayve some other models are all using the same D4D engine and there are no problems getting them with a week or two !!

And I wish I could get a tracking number from the dealer ..AAAHHHHH

                            <<vent ends>>

Maybe a Pajero is not such a bad proposition ( flame suit on )
