I think they took one look at my trade and didn't really want it anyway....... 1988 diesel Hilux with nicely rusting tray. Engine recon last year though.. not by choice you understand. Came very close to scrapping it then and probably should have, didn't have such a good job last year though. Keeps leaking gearbox oil and I'm stuffed if I can see where it comes from. Has to be somewhere up top. Gearbox probably needs recon too judging by the tick tick tick I get in reverse methinks. Sometimes I can get it up to 110 but you need a hefty tail wind for that :?. Sits on 90 - 100 ok though. So they let me keep driving it until pickup day. Poor old girl. Just about to tick over 400 thou. Hi all,
Picked up the new machine yesterday, was the only D4D GXL in the yard had excellent service from our local dealer no problems.
You guys are right about the horns, my mates lawn tractor horn is louder, but that will soon be fixed Alah SEBEL sitting on the bench.
Very impressed with the D4D engine.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Cannot wait till I get my new machine. And see what it drives like compared to my 95 series 3.4 litre. Should be a lot better on fuel that's for sure. Only less than two weeks now (and a lot smaller bank balance) I hope it's on time.
Getting back to the delivery times, one local sales guy (who I have known since a teenager, 25 years or so) tells me the diesel engines are hard to get because there is only one factory making them. Personally I think the Fleets are getting them first at the expense of the private buyers.
Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but I know how big business works......... big customers always come first.

Yeh Well done clifton.
I think Snowy was right i have seen at least 1 truck every week in Perth heading up north with new D4Ds on the back all decked out with overhead flashing lights and accesories used for the mines.
Just remember toyota the mines wont flourish forever and when you fall back on Mr joe average the shoe will be on the other foot.
I just hope by the time im ready for a new car that another manufacturer has closed the gap to toyota.

Spoke to dealer again today.He told me that we are still on track for December 27th delivery to me or there abouts (christmas).He told me that the production run will finish on the 22nd of November,will then be put on a ship which arrive in Melbourne on the 16th of December and then to the dealer by the 27th as first mentioned

I found the tracking system to a handy tool right up to the day of "preparing for delivery" but as I had no way of testing its accuracy cant comment further, I hope you get you chrissy present.

Hi all,
I'm sure some will be a bit envious, just picked up the new baby after stumbling across an on-line ad last weekend. I'm absolutely stoked.
Back in May the dealer i was seeing stuffed around with my trade-in, so i decided to put off the purchase until i sold the trade-in privately.
Depression was setting in a couple of weeks ago after trying to find a D4D for delivery this year. The best ETA i could get was March '08, so i crawled back into my hole to re-evaluate. I rang almost every dealer in Sydney to check what the ETA for delivery was. Some were honest & said between 4-6 months, others advised that they could get one quickly, but did not want to committ to a delivery date until i signed & paid the deposit.
Couldn't believe my luck when the exact vehicle i was looking for appeared in an on-line ad. Put a deposit on the next morning, sorted out the finance & picked it up 2 days later.
For anyone looking, PM me if you need details of the dealer, as he seemed to give the impression that he had them rolling into the yard on a regular basis.
