  • New here and deciding between current GXL or previous VX

Hi all, I’m a new member from Melbourne. I am looking to buy my first Prado (used) and trying to decide between 2018 GXL or 2016 VX since they cost roughly the same. Assuming both has the same mileage, similar used condition, and cost roughly the same, which one would you suggest? I really like the bells and whistles of VX - KDSS, sound system, premium seat, auto headlights and wipers, and etc. I do however prefer the external look of current generation Prado. Looking forward to your opinions

    Thank you!

Tough question, indeed. The newer look is definitely a big factor for me, but the creature comforts and features of the superseeded model is also very compelling. If I had to make a quick decision, the newer shape would score higher over the older vehicle.

I’d go gxl mate over the older vx

newwr car pretty much same if not better features then older vx only thing is kdss.. but with upgraded suspension will be pretty much the same ??

Go drive both have a look but I’m sure the newer car will be better as the inside and outside are a lot nicer

And if 2.8 engine the newer shape will
        have less dpf issues

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am still on the fence at the moment. The current generation GXL looks really good. However for the same price as the VX, I am only looking at cloth trim model.

Considering both my choices will have DPF, what is the best way to look for signs of issue with DPF in a short test drive?

Just bought a new 2020 VX but was amazed at how advanced the new GXL is. 6 speed gearbox is good to drive. Smoother. I'd go for new. Full warranty, looks better, drives better.

Maybe look at a third option: second hand 2019 GXL. You get 7 years warranty with Prados built in 2019 onwards, which is good both for you and future sale.

Warranty is now 5 years but if vehicle is serviced at dealer when scheduled it is extended for further 2 years to cover motor registry and drive train. Suggest new(ish) GXL if governed by a budget.
