  • What would you say it's worth?

    Hey guys,
My director just ordered his new prado yesterday (I'm a bit jealous).
Anyway, I was asked if I would still be interested in buying his old one.
Its an ongoing debate, where I offered to buy it, then they decided to keep it for staff use, to now keeping another (cheaper) car for staff use.

The prado is a 2004 GXL. White, v6, auto.
Has bull bar, tow hitch, hella spotlights, roof bars, bluetooth, and roof mounted DVD player.
There is not a scratch or dent on it, has been logbook serviced from brand new, and has 215,000kms.
The director loves his cars, and washes it every week, never off road, and serviced on the dot every time.
He does a lot of driving on the freeway between jobs and home, so thats the high kms.
Was serviced yesterday, and told it is like brand new, apart from needing the front brakes skimmed.

I made them an offer to buy it, and wanted to know roughly what you guys think is a reasonable price for it?
2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.
    More to come!

I'd estimate $18 to $20K trade in value. Maybe add $4k for private sale.

Above is about right the average punter does 25k per year so you have a car here that is almost double the average

If you go for it make sure it is A1 as you will probably get next to nothing for its next trade so you may as well run it to the ground and take token value on the purchase of a new vehicle down the track.

You can mention hwy kays all you like but most places will simply look at the year general condition and kays and drop offer accordingly if they are out of sync.

As for acessories it is usually a 5 to 1 ration meaning for every 5k of acesssories on the vehicle you may get 1k more than the going rate from a standard vehicle

The above abbreviated advice comes from a family member who works in vehicle leasing. His best bang for buck advise is as follows

Option 1 lease it mod it yourself and then buy it outright at the end of lease. Run it to the absolute ground then start again
Option 2 Lease it get as many mods as the company will allow (most are starting to shy away from suspension with new rules coming in) and then update every 3 years
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further

Re: What would you say it's worth?

Thanks for your help so far.
so it's looking not too bad.
I plan on having this car for a long time, (at least 5 years)
By which time whatever I sell it for will be a bonus as my history so far has rarely been
high on resale. (sell for what I owe on them).
This car has pretty much everything I would want, except suspension & different tyres.

I made that offer based on what they might get for trade in, plus a little more to entice it my way.
A lot of the cars I have looked at in my budget here have that many K's as it is, and they show it too.
Will wait and see what happens.

Re: What would you say it's worth?

I recently sold my white 03 GXL for $19,500 on Ebay overnight to the first looker. It was unmarked and had 257,000klms on it, and was logbook serviced. It had everything the same as yours, except the DVD player. I could have sold it twenty times over with another 5-6 grand on it easily, as I had so many people trying to gazump( spelling?) each other on it. The 120 is a very popular model, and at that price, in that condition ... IMHO a very good buy and will always have good resale value.

This is the same dillema I have with finding a value for my 07 V6 white GXL at 100000km should I run it into the ground or trade up to 150diesel Gx.
              Best Regards
