  • Hi All,
Good news!! Got a call from my dealer that my Prado is in production and should be at the dealership by mid-December. Booked a Prado Kakadu at Peter Kittle Adelaide in the first week of August. Was open to White or Black colour with either the flat gate or the spare wheel option. They are happy to get me a White with the spare wheel at the back for 88500.

    • still no news on my Kakadu ordered in may.
last week we tested the new Ford Everest Platinum V6 diesel.
and we were impressed by engine power, how quite it was , interior is very modern and looks nice.
my wife says lets cancel Prado order and get Everest instead.

things i dont like about everest:
      • smaller fuel tank only 80l, might be able to replace with ARB long range 140l
      • it has adblue - one more thing to carry or worry about,
      • has start stop - which i hate.
      • it has 10 speed auto which might be good in some cases but more gears potentially less reliable, potentially can hunt around gears bit more.
      • visibility at the front i felt was less than prado, maybe need to adjust seat, but felt the height of windscreen is smaller,
      • multimedia boot time feels like it could be done quicker, i restarted car and had to wait quite a bit to get system up and running again
      • also i think its electronic clutchpack 4wd system, potentially can overheat with lots of sand driving, and might not be able to hard lock it

      things i liked:
      • engine power and quite, cant even tell its a diesel from inside
      • breaking performance better
      • audio is very good , lots of base
      • screen is big and sharp resolution, has various offroad modes and camera views on the screen
      • interior is nice, seat stitching looks good, lots of adjustments on the seats,
      • black roof lining is nice with panoramic roof .
      • can have 18" wheels with ATR tyres as a free option
      • 4wd modes, fulltime part time and 2wd
      • everest has slitly bigger payload ,
      • can tow 500kgs more, not that i need to tow 3500.
      • wading depth 100mm higher
      • ground clearance 7mm higher
      • track 35mm wider

anyone got experience with both cars ?

I picked up the Prado Vx with flat tailgate on the 4th of Nov. So yes waited for less than 6 months.

I reckon they got a shipment in recently to Aust. The dealer said they come in waves so a bunch of cars delivered then none for 2 weeks then another bunch.

I ordered a VX late May. No word until:

          28 Sept - Being built
          4 Oct - At Sea
26 Oct - On way to dealership
8 Nov - car handed over

Think the tracking system was a bit off and maybe cancelled orders helped me (?) Also based on comments here it depends on where you are in the dealership queue and how many they order.

What wait time did they quote you?

I ordered a GLX in Feb, have heard absolutely nothing since and I'm starting to think about the Everest, but if it just means jumping onto another queue its less enticing.

Actually I just called the dealer and was informed the status is still at A00, he said once it changes to status A10 it'll be ~3 months from then, no idea when the status could change though. Hilarious hearing a dealer say cancel at any time if you want, as he can just sell it to someone else in a heartbeat. Wild times.

                called my dealer again today.
they estimate may2023 delivery, as they only get 1 Kakadu per months allocation at the moment.
for VX they got 40 ppl in the queue

Your post yesterday got me thinking enough that after I spoke to my Toyota dealer I also spoke to a broker regarding the Everest, he said 3-4 weeks for a Trend, but much longer for Sport & Platinum, Sport in particular was rough, 12-15 months according to him. Seriously considering the Everest Trend as an option though.

The market is so weird at the moment its not out of the question to get the Everest, keep the Prado slot and sell either one when the Prado finally arrives and make money on the deal.

                    • There might be a new Prado model released in mid 2023. Should we wait for the new model which might have hybrid? Any thoughts are welcome.

This would include a sharp price rise for sure and we are aware about the unprecedented wait times that Toyota is always having. Looking at the new 300 series and the wait times touching upwards of 18months, i wouldn't be keen unless I want to wait till mid/end of 2024 or even 2025 for the car delivery.
Spoke to my dealer about the same and they said they are still taking orders for the current shape and the wait time is 12 months, so you wont get a new one delivered till the back orders are completed. Hence if you want a Prado buy the current one and sell it for profit when the new one comes.

I got quoted 94k driveaway, I have noticed early delivery times in other states.

                              • I would caution people thinking they will sell their Prado and “make money” on it…. Interest rate are going up and up, economy is seriously slowing and new car ( hopefully only additional engine, not a complete change)…. Probably likely true that a less than 6 month old Prado low km will sell for about same as new car…. Most Prado advertises for much higher price on car sales don’t move until the price drops…. So more likely you won’t lost much if you keep for 6 mth- 1yr, rather than making$$$
