  • 2012 GXL with 230,000kms on the clock??

Looking at purchasing a 2012 GXL with 230,000kms on the clock.

    From a dealer.

Just wondering what I should be on the look out for with this one?

Are those km's a bit high?

I'm on a budget so this is basically as good as it gets for my budget.

Husband is concerned about the kms.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Petrol, Barely run in, Diesel, its right in the range of the ones that are blowing pistons. I'd be getting a cold start injector test and oil pickup screen check done before even considering buying it.

It is diesel. Uggh ok so no good then one would think. Definitely don’t want to have to be paying out money straight off the bat.

Injectors need replacing (no matter what the feedback values etc. are) so that needs to be considered in price if not already done. If you can't do it yourself then allow at least >$3k, if it hasn't had a catch can or EGR plate it will probably require an intake manifold clean as well, if you're paying someone another $1k

Yep, Have injectors cold start tested. Likely will at least need a set of injector seals, Check oil pickup for any build-up, Manifold will likely need a full strip down and clean. And still with all of that in OK order, still has the risk of Blowing pistons as many many of that model are currently.

If you're buying from a dealer, they do offer the extended warranty. Although, I'm not a 100% sure about a car that's done 230,000 kms being eligible for such a warranty. However, if it is eligible, I would fork out the extra money and buy the warranty. I recently bought a 2012 Prado, and hesitantly purchased the extended warranty. Two months in, I had a problem with the central diff lock, and was quoted $3400 for the repair. The warranty covers this repair, and I'm having to pay just $43 for the oil.

Oh, and also, engage and disengage the central diff lock to check if it works properly.

Most dealers will offer no warranty above 200,000. Or they will sell you a NON factory aftermarket that covers bugger all. Usually not worth bothering with. A dealer who can do genuine Toyota extended warranty is worth it.. 9But won't on a 200+ k kms car).
