  • Prado Disel Fuel Injector life

    Hi Pradoers,

I am planning to buy disel prado (esp. 1KD-FTV) 2nd hand Year range 2011 - 2013, kms range 240K - 320K. I know timing belt is the big expense which comes around every 150K.

My big question is the Fuel injectors, when do they need to replace? I called toyota dealer service and the mechanic said there is no range to replace them. Called another 4X4 Auto Giant Brisbane mechanic (reviewed by OP in another thread) he said it needs to be done every 150K. The information is not inline that makes me worry as the expense is around $4-5K based on the recent quote.

I can see lot of people are selling around 150ish mark and 300ish mark, so is it these k's have higher expense?

Main concern: Does the fuel injectors needs to be replaced at every 150K?

Any insight or advise is highly appreciated.

    Prado aspirant.

Having been through a big saga with a blown engine one lesson was that Fuel Injectors do not need to be replaced at 150k, monitor the condition and replace when they go out of spec.

How do you monitor their condition?

Use Techstream to check values on cold start. Get a cheap one off ebay or get your mechanic to do it. There's a tonne of info about it on this forum

At that sort of kms - if it hasn’t been changed before, get on to it asap, provided you get the latest we denso DLC coated injector, get the job done properly like use new pipes etc, the injectors are good for another 200k, which would be probably the end of its economic life, and you don’t have a thing to worry- why drag out the inevitable and risk issues which comes with it…. Oh yes , I doubt you get that much change out of $5k DIY if you get the right and associated parts
