  • 150 series spare wheel cover

Why do some have the naked spare whilst others have a massive plastic cover?

  • #2
the plastic cover comes standard with a new Prado, if you get a flat, the distorted flat tyre generally means you can't fit the plastic cover over it, so you have to put the plastic cover in the back of the Prado (which is probably full of camping gear), or leave it on the site of the highway. Most people, who upgrade their tyres to AT and LT, remove the hard plastic cover, as it is just a waste of space and isn't necessary.

I'm one of the lucky Prado owners: I bought my MY16 second hand and there was no spare wheel cover with it. The spare tyre is easy to access (I've had three punctures in the last four years) and the towball is within the field of vision of the reversing camera. Both of these advantages are not an option with the cover fitted.

So if I take it off, it won't affect anything right?

Some people think that the plastic cover will help stop the spare tyre from aging prematurely (due to not being exposed to the sun), I don't subscribe to this, and I rotate my tyres so they are all getting equal amount of solar radiation anyway.

If you take the cover off (which I have done), make sure you take the black plastic back plate off as well (you take the spare wheel off, and there are three or four screws holding it to the door).

That's it, and as geewhizz says above, you also get a better view of your towball in the reversing camera.

What might you think removing it will affect ?

When you do take it all off, you’ll be amazed at the number of tiny stones etc between the black inner cover and the body.

I want to gift a Prado to my brother who just started his business as the best research writing service provider in Ireland. Need all the requirements and prices. Is there anyone who can share it with me?
