  • Advice Needed on Buying a Prado 90 series

Hi My 1st post apologies if in wrong section.

Looking at buying a manual 90 series deisel, this one has 190K which seems a bit high, is a lower grade model, with no bolt on wheel arches, and not many extras, wants $18K, price seems ok.

What should I be looking for in faults etc?

    Is 190K to high kms?

    Clutch issues?

Should I wait and get a lower km, higher grade version like a 90 series VX or Grande and pay the extra $?

Should I pay extra and get 120 series?

Thanx let me know If I have to post this elsewhere?

That price seems high to be honest for that spec model and those k's
2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.
    More to come!

I'd have to agree, the price seems a little high...

What year is it & has it had the services documented @ every 5000km?

The GXL provides a few improvements over the RV including the wheel arches & side paneling, the tires are wider & taller by default. If you intend to use the car off road at all then you need to consider your future tire options too.

Also from memory the RV only has the 90l fuel tank, GXL & up has the additional 69L.

BTW just come back from Fraser & the odometer just clicked over 200,000km so the k's themselves I don't think are an issue, you just need to be confident in its service history & if its done too much serious offroad work.

      Cheers

          Hardie,

I have a 00 TD Rv and couldn't be happier. Yes the price is toooo high try to haggle him down. Buy buying the RV you have a great base to work with and you will save yourself $$$ for the mods that will come.

I have a 2" lift, duel batteries all wired to the back with inverter etc, bullbar, lightforce 170's, Cooper ST 245/75/16. UHF etc. It will go anywhere other 4WD's will go. For travelling I have a storage system I put into the back. It hasn't got the luxuries and electrics that the GXL and Grande have which in my eyes means less to break down.

Mine is serviced every 5000 k's and has been for the last 120000. Touch wood nothing has gone wrong with it.

If you could prove the service history and get him to lower the price it would be a bargin buy.

          Graeme

Re: Advice Needed on Buying a Prado 90 series

            Bought a 2002 Prado 90 RV series, 240,000kms, manual, diesel for $15K.

Things I found that need attention are:
            1) Leaking power steering pump and steering rack (not major leak - stop leak slowed it down)
            2) Worn steering rack bushes (new Nolathane bush kit going in this Saturday - $53 from ebay)
            3) Had to replace all shocks and struts (went for a lift kit anyway)
            4) and because it was an ex construction company car, worn (but still usable) lower control arm bushes ($196 a set of Nolathanes from Repco ready to go in when needed)
            5) Shaky dashbaord - quite common, see other forums
            6) Replaced 2 tyres with 60% 2nd hand ones at $100 for both (Maxxis 751s)

Other than that, I've been enjoying the car.

Oh yes, first weekend after I got the car, changed all the oils to quality oils - front and rear diff (Nulon), engine oil (Mobil Delvac fully synthetic), Transfer case (Nulon), gearbox (Nulon).
