  • Prado owner's manual

I just bought a Prado 2003 (petrol, 2.7L, 4WD, automatic gears) imported from Japan. It came with a Japanese owner's manual and Japanes text/language on the media centre (6-CD changer, navsat, TV, touchscreen, mini-disk). I can't read (understand) the funny Japanese symbols/text.

    Questions:
    1. Where can I find/get an English owner's manual for this vehicle?
    2. Is it possible to select in the media system English as language, instead of Japanese?
    3. Would I be able to get the navsat system for Kenya?
    4. Can I play DVDs on the TV?

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: Prado owner's manual

First off, welcome to pradopoint Wim!

Could you please fillout to upper 'Location' field so as it displays, it will make it easier for people on here to offer the correct advise for your location. This can be found in the 'User control panel', 'Profile' section, just above 'Occupation'.

    1. The english owner's manual, best bet, would probably be your local toyota dealer. Good chance they'd order it in for you!
    2. Is it the original toyota media system? or a 3rd party?
    3. Would depend on the system original or not, more information? Manufacturer, Model info please.
    4. Possibly, again we rely need a bit more info.

If it is a toyota branded unit, then I'd suggest taking it into your service agent and speaking to them directly. They would be able to give you the best advise, and possibly correct it while you are there.

Hope you are enjoying your new ride, look forward to seeing pictures of your mods in the future.

    Cheers

        Re: Prado owner's manual

        Hi WIm,
I have the 3.4 litre petrol here in Kenya. Could I ask how much you bought yours at.

For Manual get Toyota Kenya or Get 1 of the dealers who imports from UK to photocopy a book for you.
In mine I changed the whole stereo system and put in a Sony one so it solved 2 problems for me. 1 everything is in English. 2 the japanese for radio only goes to 89.99 so you have to put an FM extemder which reduces sound quality. This way with a sony it goes till 109 so I can pick up all the radio stations and get good sound quality.

Also I would advice to change the speakers as the japanese prados come with pathetic 20 watt speakers at front and 17 watts at the back.

Is yours a TX or a TZ.

        Regards,

        Vijay

          Hi,
          mine was 2.6m
Yes, this expander doesn't sound great. Speakers are fine though, including sub bass in the boot!
I will get a proper antenna, that would help a lot, I heard.
Any luck with the GPS? Kenyan database CD-ROM?

                Re: Prado owner's manual

As far as I know there is no GPS for Kenya...Dont have a Manual but your bets bet is to get one from a prado imported from UK or one sold locally and ask the dealer if you can photocopy or buy the book of him...External Aerial would help as at moment as soon as I get out of Nairobi I loose the signal and end up listening to CD's

                  Re: Prado owner's manual

And yours? TX? Does yours have the spare tyre underneath or on the back door?

Does your Prado have a rear axle diff lock, or a central ("prop shaft") diff lock only? mine is only central diff lock it seems....

                    Re: Prado owner's manual

its a TZ..the spare wheel is underneath and not on the door (for Kenyan roads this is actually better as due too all the potholes etc if on door with all that weight the door will start rattling and sagging)....mine also only has a centre diff lock...the rear diff lock was an option and 99% of prados dont have it...I have traction control in mine which will atleats do 95% of the work a rear diff lock would do which is good enough for me...or look at getting an ARB rear diff lock fitted...Fast Eddies in Embakasi should be able to do as they are official agents of ARB or robs magic can also do..they will have the TJM diff locks....

                    FAST EDDIES (K) LTD

Fast Eddies also do Safari Snorkels...and their bull bar is almost half price of the TJM one at Robs Magic....the style is quite similar to the ARB bullbar
