REVS Check question

I've never bought a second hand car in Australia and understand it's in my interest to do a REVS check when buying from a private seller. As I had seen no mention of doing a REVS check when buying from a dealer I assumed that I didn't need to.

Someone in work has just told me that I should get a REVS check even when buying from a dealer - can anyone tell me if this is true please?

The Dealer should do the REVs check for you to cover his backside too as it is a check on whether the car is stolen or money is still owed on it to a bank or finance house. Make sure the Dealer gives you the REVs check form/copy.

Thanks Sunshine, I had thought that a dealer would have done some checks themselves otherwise they could get burned - I will take your suggestion and ask for a copy.

The free REVS check should provide you with enough information as to whether the vehicle is clear or not.

After a previous problem with a dealer and encumberance withheld on it further down the track,
I would advise in at least getting a copy of the REVS cert, or doing one yourself.
