    What should I pay for a 3 door SWB 3000 Litre Diesel Prado?

    Folks,

    Please assist me. What should I reasonably pay for the following vehicle in a private sale?
    1. 3 door short wheel base Prado;
    2. 1998 Year Model;
    3. 3 litre diesel engine;
    4. 200 000 kilomtres on the clock;
    5. direct import from Japan in 2000;
    6. reasonable overall condition.

    Please advise what I should look out for and/or inspect and consider before making this purchase?

    what is your location?
    where is the car located? private, dealer?
    2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
    rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.

          I beleive what Timmay5.7 is suggesting is that you update your location in your user preferences so it is displayed under your avatar. This will make any future queries a little easier to answer if location plays any part.

          As ntpryce has stated, this is not a buyers guide and any judgement of price given here will be subjective to the individual giving you the advice. We all buy what we can afford (ok some may buy beyond there means but who's to judge :P ). Your final comment "Please advise what I should look out for and/or inspect and consider before making this purchase?" is something that people here sould be able to help with.

          Apart from checking the usual service history, ensuring that the timing belt and water pump were done, taking it for a good drive on road and over a bit of rough stuff (to listen for rattles etc) and the like unless there are any glaring points that may suggest it's lived a hard 200,00km you should be pretty safe - touch wood. Also, it doesn't hurt to check under the hood, behind the dash (inspection mirrors and torches are good for this) and under the car for any "dodgy" modifications that may cause problems (mechanical, electrical or legal) later on.

          If you want to look at value then as previously mentioned, research the market in redbook, carpoint etc.

              THANKS for all your respective inputs, much appreciated. The reason why I approached this forum was because I had exhausted the following options/sources for advice on the value of this vehicle:
              1. http://www.redbook.com.au/
              2. http://www.carpoint.com.au/
              3. http://www.tradingpost.com.au/
              4. Toyota Australia.

              Because of the non availability of this vehicle in Australia, no one appears to know what a reasonable value is. I was hoping that a member of this forum may have had a similar experience in the past and hence may be able to provide an indicative and reasonable purchase price with some motivations supporting the indicative and suggested price.
