  • manual vs auto D4D

can anyone give me some pros and cons of the manual vs auto of the D4D engine? I've always had manual vehicles, but the autos seem to be catching up?

I would not be towing more than a small trailer at best, so its really a question of city driving vs highway, fuel consumption and off-road ability.

    cheers

    Re: manual vs auto D4D

I own an auto D4D 2008 GXL and I couldnt be happier with it. I have owned plenty of manuals in my time and autos are pretty darn good these days.

Fuel consumption is slightly higher in the auto but I used to drive the dreaded gateway motorway to and from work daily in peak hour traffic. So auto is lovely in this situation. I tow normal box trailers and also my 1.5T camper trailer also with no ill effects.

The four wheel drive capabilities are fantastic when compared to the manual. The auto changes gears as necessary and has 2nd start function when in low gears. I have the Option Pack Two on my vehicle so the traction control helps out a fair bit as needed.

Knowing that I never have to change a dreaded clutch again is a godsend. I cant fault the auto in any way.

Good luck with your choice. But you will have fun either way.
