KDj "" year 2006 "" totally different engine build? & construction

    GRJ 120r - 4sp & 5sp auto - i get this

What is KDj 120 r MY 07 year 2006 mean?
understand its a turbo diesel whats the MY 07?
is there any rule of thumb or any way to simplify understanding all the codes? How many models are there per year or 2?
there seems to be so many different configurations, codes per year, please enlighten me

First two letters are the engine type. KZ = 1kzte turbo diesel, KD = 1KDFTV (D4D) turbo diesel, GR = 1GRFE V6 petrol.

Next (J120) is the platform. In this case the J120 platform, which was also used for the pre 150 FJ cruiser and by Lexus.

"r" is for right hand drive.

"MY 07" is nothing to do with Toyota, this is something some local dealers use. It means "Model Year"

In your example "MY 07 2006" I'd suggest it is a 2007 model update but built date of late 2006

      model specs, why the diffences?

After more research, spec looking, i have a few more questions

why is there so much weight difference between GX & GLX, like 300kg's ? See specs.

GX has more ground clearance than a GLX. Why is that?

Does the GLX come with Factory bullbar or Xtras that add the weight? if not, why the 300kg diff?
      is this an issue?

25mmm is not a lot in the scheme of things, but it could be the diff between, well a smashed diff?

is there 1 model that comes with more underneath protection, ie smash plates etc. I understand when bought new this kind of stuff may be optioned by dealer, is this the reason, etc

I dont get it, but an explanation will help me,

        Re: model/series numbers/Spec differences

        Merged into one topic.

Your data is flawed or you are not comparing apples with apples (i.e.; you have 90 vs. 120 or 150 data or 3 door/5 door data)

With the 120; GX has the least ground clearance due to running a smaller diameter tire.

Toyota list 207mm as the minimum ground clearance for any model of 120 Prado (this would be the GX)

Toyota also don't specify a curb weight - they specify a range (i.e. 980 - 1070 for a petrol v6 GX) This allows for options.

The lightest GX (petrol, 5 speed manual, no options or AC) is 980kg. A Grande diesel auto with all the fruit is 2190kg.

So 210kg is the difference between the lowest spec povo pack and the highest spec luxo barge.

This info from Toyota Technical Data Sheet 2008.8

          Re: model/series numbers/Spec differences

Further to your first post, this explains model codes.

Note: GXL and Grande models are OZ only specs. To Toyota Japan (and their model code line up) a GXL is a GX with options and a Grande is a VX with options.
