  • Wouxun KG-UVD1P 4W handheld radio

Been looking for a handheld radio (twinpack) that is a bit more powerful than the toys (0.5W) that we have. Going price is about $100 ea and you can add speaker/mics. I just think that these will do for the rare occasions that we need a powerful radio that we can take out of the car as well vs an in-dash radio.

Anyone got one? Or care to comment on its features, etc?

Just curious, are these actually legal in Oz Andrew given they will Tx well outside the CB Band?

Yeah, I don't think they are. I was going to program the channels in and only use them. Just need more thoughts from non-newbies like me if this is a good buy or not and whether I'm going to get into trouble....

Have you looked at the GME handhelds? You can get an 80 channel, 3 Watt one for $173.80 with free delivery

I've got the 2 Watt one ($88.55 postage free) for when I'm away from the car and very happy with it. Mine is the 40 channel one not the 80 like this one.

At least with these they have a full Australian warranty.

For the record, I have no connection with Prestige.com but have used them a few times with no problems.
