  • $20 tyre deflators

    Hey guys,

    Bought this on eBay

TYRE DEFLATORS SET OF FOUR (4) OFF ROAD 4x4 100% BRASS FREE POUCH DEFLATOR
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TYRE-DEFL...#ht_5682wt_948

$20 shipped and come in a cool little zip up pouch. They're obvious staun copies but at 1/4 of the cost.
Even if they last me 1/3 of the time I'm stil in front I reckon I'll lose them before I break them

    Cheers,

BTW: not affiliated with these guys and not getting any kickbacks. Will report on quality when I get them and use them queens b'day Long weekend

I've always wondered how good they are.... they won't break but the only thing I see that could be an issue is maintaining the accuracy of the set pressure over time. Haven't seen one inside but I would think that they were pretty simple mechanically.

I have the Stauns but wouldn't mind a second set so that I have 4 pairs, with each pair set at a different pressure. Looking forward to your feedback.

I would only use them once a month type thing... if they under deflate then it'll just give it a bit more with the tyre gauge... if they over deflate I can always top them up a little with my onboard compressor...

I think they all come out of the same factory and you're just paying a bit more for the Staun name...

      Will keep you updated!

Cheers for the heads up Lorenzo,
I figure for $20, if they don't last, I've wasted alot more on less intelligent purchases

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

These are actually a pretty good products I have been selling them for a while until I received an email from the lawyers acting on behalf of the staun inventors, saying that staun have a patent on the valve itself and if I dont cease selling them they will take me to court. needless to say I fought them for abit but it wasn't worth my time and effort for the little I made from them. The only problem we found with the chinese copies was that the valve sticks a little, just a matter of using them a few times and away they go.

My brother inlaw has a set of these (not sure if they are exactly the same brand or not) and he said they only worked properly for about 5 uses then they started to loose the pressure settings, he has stopped using them now and gone back to a valve removing deflator.

I used to use my tyre gauge to let them down.. and it was back breaking... if these work even 10 times, that has me covered for a couple of years... chances are i'll lose them in 12 months and buy a new set... i'll be out $40 as opposed to $160... no brainer for my kind of use... if u use them every weekend, get the proper ones i say!

I bought a set of imitation Stauns and spent a lot of time trying to get them set to work reliably. I tried lube, pulling them apart, different set methods.. They would work to + /- 10psi, waste of time. In the end I threw them out and bought Stauns, no comparison. They go to the correct pressure every time.

Have just received these in the post today. They were sent on monday and took 3 days to get to Melbourne. Have had a look and they look very well made. The zipped pouch is a cracker too!

Will have a whirl with them tonight and set them. Will report back, but so far I'm impressed!

How did these go, I'm thinking of a set as I will only be using them every now and then - so can't really justify the outlay for top class ones.

Personally, I think those Staun type defaltors are a silly idea.
IMO a much better faster method are the deflators that remove the valve to deflate. I for one like to get on the tracks as soon as I can when we get off the bitumen.

G'day Davros I have both the arb ez deflator and the stauns and prefer using the stauns as u can get all 4 tyres deflating at the same time I find they are considerably faster, the only time I use the arb ez deflator is if I want to set my tyre pressures to something different than what I have my stauns set at

I guess it all comes down to personal preference then. I have a Ferret deflator on my keyring. Have been using it for a couple of years now. I regularly head out with others who have different deflators. We went out last weekend for a days fun around Portland.
I dropped my pressures from 42psi to 18 psi in a couple of minutes then waited while the others mucked about.

Last weekend all agreed the ferret was by far the fastest although evryone else believed thier deflators were the best for them.

                              Ok... report on these deflators...

Got to use them on a high country trip and I must say they were quite good. I set them a couple of weeks ago before I left to 20psi and one of the deflators has the setting wheel which is a bit hard to turn. It almost seems like it's cross threaded but I removed it and replaced it and it still does it. The interior thread must be burred and this is what is causing it. No problems though, a bit of elbow grease and I got it to set to the psi I wanted. It won't bother me again for a while as it's only a pain when setting the pressure initially. There is also another little issue with one of the deflators (I think its the same one) that doesn't seem to release air as quick as the others. There must be something clogged up in there. It was the first deflator I put on the first tyre and the others had finished by about 30 seconds by the time this one finished. No biggie, but still a bit of a pain. Overall they all brought the pressure down to 20-22psi and a tyre needed a bit more let out of it. I probably just set it wrong. Overall, for the price I was happy, it does what it's supposed to do. I'm not fussed if it's 1 or 2 psi out as I like to check each tyre anyway and letting out an extra psi is a 5 second job. I avoid the back breaking bending over whilst letting tyres down so overall I'm happy. Not 100% but happy.

Hope this sheds some light... open to questions..

                              Cheers!
