  • 150 Smart Key

    G'day,

Found this whilst wasting some time, thought it might be an option for a spare key.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2009-2010...item53ecc10be5

I have already emailed the seller but due to language barriers only got this response:-

Thank you for your inquiry of the 2009 2010 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER PRADO GENUINE ORIGINAL SMART KEY BLACK JDM VIP.
The item is for LANDCRUISER PRADO TRJ150W GRJ150W GRJ151W corresponding to smart entry and start system.
On the set-up,they have it setting up by a nearby dealer within Japan, too.
We recommend that you may consult with dealer.
We are gladly being your assistance from Japan.
We look fowarad on hearing and dealings.
    Thank you for your time.
    Best Regards,JZSINTERNATIONAL JAPANMasahiro Tabata

Does anyone know if this key would be compatible with OZ spec 150's? Could you program the key yourself? I haven't approached OZ Toyota yet, that might be my next step.

I seem to remember that a replacement from Toyota was approx. $500

    Cheers

There's also a smart watch available in Japan. I looked into it a bit and everything seemed to suggest they use a different radio frequency?

Supposedly, if the FCC number (I think that's the one) is the same, then it is compatible and a dealer can program it for you.

Had one of my keys stolen from wife's handbag in Melbourne. Toyota supplied a new programmable key for $398 (this was discounted as I'm a regular customer). Free of charge they unprogrammed the two old keys (the one I still had and the stolen one) and then reprogrammed the new key and my existing key to work with my car. This way the stolen key no longer works on my car and is no longer a theft threat. It is then necessary to get the little emergency key that slides in and out of the programmable key pad cut to match my car. As it needed to be hand cut on both sides, the nearby locksmith charged me $38 to do it. All up AUD$436. Why go to Japan?

I understand it's more expensive but really like the style of the transponder. It would fit quite easily into your wallet and reduce pocket clutter (always checking which one my phone is in).

Anyway, the price and functionality means nothing if it isn't compatible with our 150's.

Do Toyota have a programming sequence, or do they use the unintelligent tester thingy?

Is the watch you are talking about a Toyota Item?
