This product was being shared on FB early this month by 4wdTV and then got hammered by a few people which seemed to back fire on Simon. Blatant Cash for Comment (IMO).
Clearly some very aggressive marketing going on by the TRED dept. Evidence of that has been seen on this thread by 2 recent posts..(#33 & #34)

Im currently waiting for the next special to Buy a set of Maxtrax.
I've looked at the TREDs, but would rather pay more better Quality IMO.
      Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

I don't own either of theses products so can't comment on how they compare to one another but I will say that this thread should be cleaned up as no one seems to have used them and some of the comments are not relevant to the question asked. I have joined a few forums over the years ( motorbike, car and 4x4 forums) and if irrelevant comments were made in a post they were deleted, don't get me wrong I like the information that I have found on this forum but I think that some of the threads need some cleaning up. I think some of the comments aren't very Aussie. Give the Aussie bloke a go. Well that's my 2 cents worth. Brett

From what I hear this thread will be redundant once the Lawyers get the TRED's pulled from the market for breach of Patent!

            TRED4x4

Please, send us SA folk a pair of TRED tracks. We will test them around the coorong and give an honest comparison against maxtrax. We know soft sand, and we know what works. I would honestly give TREDs a fair go if I didn't have to pay for them.

As for the patent issue, its interesting to say the least. The TREDs look sufficiently different in many ways. You can't patent a product on what it does, otherwise the inventors of sand ladders could take maxtrax to court.

Yes, send Ian a test set. God knows he wore out 3 pairs of MaxTrax at the GTG. If they ass his abuse they must work!

I cant understand why anyone would shop at any 4wd specific store anywhere. Ive only bought one thing from a 4wd store and that was a bullbar. I left the store disgusted in how i was treated after spending more then a $1000 dollars on a product. It was basically your bullbars out the back now piss off and no i wont give you a hand to load it in the car. That was my first purchase of an accessory for my 4wd. 20 or so 4wd accessory purchases later and i can say the ebay stuff, super cheap, jaycar, and all the other non specific 4wd stores out do any specific 4wd store by far and the money left in my back pocket is probably thousands better off then if i had chosen a brand name product. The products all work fantastic, from snorkel to winch to side awning, not a glitch in performance and most being over half the price of branded name stuff. I will never understand why people throw good money at a brand name when there is virtually the same thing out there for alot less money. Anyway thats my thoughts. Far as sand tracks ive seen both and if i was buying some id get the Boabs at 75 bucks each, if i had to choose between maxtraxs and Treds, it would be treds for sure, or if you got 25 bucks in your wallet make some like i did and i guarantee they work just as good.

So would you be so kind as to outline how the folk on here can make some recovery tracks for $25 dollars? Thanks......

yeh sure 2 pieces of 300 * 45 * 1000 pieces of wood, paint wood nail or screw slats going crossways then cover top with grip tape of the type used on skateboards on the wood and shave the ends to create a wedge to wedge under wheels. Weight is the same as maxtrax size is roughly the same and they do work and are strong enough to do track building if need be.

Hope you painted them orange - otherwise there's no way they would work.

                            Dear Whatever

I believe the original question was answered at post 7 to the proponents satisfaction.

I am unsure how anything I have said fails to give a fellow Aussie a go, in fact I understand that proposition is redundant as both purported owners of maxtrax and treds are Australian. We all support Australian products where a valid option exists, but even both sides of government, treasury and industry generally understand that Australian manufacturing is a dying industry. The fact you own a Prado and not a Holden Cruz made in Adelaide or Ford from Broad Meadows or Geelong is evidence of this.

However, please accept my apologies if the banter (a well recognised Australian quality) is annoying or has otherwise upset you in any way. I must admit that my initial thoughts were to have you stick either a maxtrax or tred up your proverbial, but that would not be fair or Australian as we are all entitled to give and take from this forum. I have no issue with persons described as takers of information, provided they dont then judge others on this forum who take the time to give.

So on that point, I qualify my apology such that I would like to divide it in to 10 equal parts. For each bit of information you have contributed to this forum, I would like to give you one thenth of that apology. So if there are ten instances of you actually contributing then I unreservedly apologise. So, looking at your 91 posts (and 91 is not the issue here, if it were 51 or 5031 the same approach would apply) I see there is no instance of you actually contributing to this forum, but around 80 instances of asking for information or otherwise sapping it by proposing your frequent common question of "I was wondering".

On that basis I refer you to the prior mentioned action of sticking any recovery device where it fits. At least I have taken the time to contribute information that has been valued by members of this forum and answered numerous personal messages about build up issues. I have also actively taken part in activities for the benefit of members including raising over $10,000 in prizes for the most recent GTG.

As I now sit back I will be wondering which recovery device firmly implanted does a better job you muppet.

Disrespectfully, as per your approach - mlc

Well done whatever... I didn't think anyone could pi$$ off MLC
MLC would have to be the most jovial, light hearted buggers on PP even though he has a large vo vocab voca, uses big words

Well mlc gee did not know u had to raise money and help thousands of fellow pp members to be on here I don't claim to know a lot about the awsome prado so there for I am a back bencher. I don't claim to be better than anyone else on here I am prob the one the needs the most help in fitting out my rig. But some of the silly crap that is posted on here there is no need for there is a lot of guys taken over threads and posting stuff that is off the question ( like I am now so maybe I am to blame here to I accept that ) but I would never big note myself about what I have done to some one just starting out who is prob not as upto date as u. And as for where to place a maxtrax or a tred I hope it would be under a wheel not up some ones rear. That's ok I don't mind I have thick shoulders and can take anything I don't get that upset just annoyed. Thank u for your reply and sorry for hijacking this thread I appoligize.and PS I do own 2 fords made in broady and outside of the prado have always owned aussie cars. And as for being called a muppet gee is that all you can think of well thank u.
