  • ebay air compressors

has anyone used the cheap ebay air compressors. You seem to be able to get a 150 psi 150 l/min compressor for 98 bucks. Looks like a copy of some of the other brands out there. Any info on these would be great from people that have used them.

    Hey Mate,

I was looking into them myself but was a bit unsure of the quality of them, also didn't want the bee's knee's arb under bonnet unit.

Settled on a ridge ryder from supercheap, was on special for $150.00. Seems to work really well and has a good duty cycle.

Not sure on the duty cycle on the cheaper one's, You might find it will take alot longer to get all tyres back up to pressure.

    Good luck

My mate had one for about 3 months and does the job.
For this price it's worth a shot.

Tracker I bought a $99.00 special on the net about 5 years ago and it has just given up the ghost. I don't know how many tyres I have pumped up but we go off road at least once a month and them travel for 4 weeks a year do a lot is the answer.

The cons are cheap fittings on the hose that need replacing they get very hot and can't be packed away for at least 20 minutes, take up room in the drawers, will really only do 6 tyres before they cut out and are slower than the brand names.

I'm actually going to put an ARB under the bonnet to get over these cons as we do use it a lot.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

I bought one of this 150L style- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4WD-150L-...item2a19b0f650
          Cost me around $65

Seems most 150L models are the same unit.
They do not pump tyres quite as quick as what the descriptions claim but pretty good all the same. Mines pumped around 50 tyres so far.
Have a mate I drive with who has an ARB comp mounted in his truck. I finish pumping all my tyres before him every time. 25psi to 45 psi just takes a few minutes each.
The pressure gauge is pretty meaningless but you quickly find out what indicated pressure relates to what you really want. 53 = 45psi on mine.

It does get hot so I blow air on it for a while before packing it away. I doubt any of the 'name' brands run much cooler. All air compressors generate copious amounts of heat. You are meant to let it cool before each tyre but I just do the lot, pausing only to cap the valve.
I'm very happy with mine. Wouldn't dream of buying an overpriced unit that probably comes from the same factory.

          Hope this helps

I came across this comparison test http://www.4wdaction.com.au/sites/de...RE%20air_2.pdf
From reading this I chose the Tigerz11

I've had a few cheapies, one from eBay, one from SCA, however they were much slower than mates ones, and sounded like they were about to blow up!
I got one of the bushranger ones, and its quite good, but still about half the cost of the ARB

I ended up getting a 150L doctor air compressor got a really good deal on it. Have to say very powerful can use as a blower to blow crap away inside car or in tent and pumps up tyres so quick. I dont think i will be needing another air compressor for a while now, everything looks good quality and theres a 5 year warranty on it.

I did the same when Tigerz11 had that big discount. Got mine for $119. I've also got the ARB one and I did a bit of a test on completely deflating my tyre on my Ute and then re-inflate in 1min intervals to see how pressure was in the tyre. I was a bit surprised when the Tigerz11 beat the ARB compressor.....even though it was only by 3psi at the end. Durability would be the issue but the ARB is also more suited for under bonnet conditions where as I don't know about the Tigerz11 one....

I had a 150psi projecta thingy from Repco. It didn't pump up as fast as the ARB under bonnet that the other SA PPers have, and its about 3 times as big. It also died at 18 months. We do a lot of airing up/down in SA, and i wanted something that's always available, and doesnt live in the boot. I replaced it with the ARB on board and am more than happy. Depends on your needs though. If you hardly ever use it, get a cheapie.

This is just my 2 cents of course
