  • 1500W(3000W) 12V-240V Power Inverter

    Hi All,
I am looking to buy a power inverter to run a fridge/freezer, CPAP machine and other bits and pieces while camping.
I have been looking on ebay for inverters and found this one.
Can any of you let me know if this is ok, they also have a 2500w for $160.

    Hey all,
Can anyone offer some advice on inverters and what type I might need, for the applications i mentioned above?
    Cheers.

      Hornet,
I can't comment on the quality of the inverter, however, for your CPAP you might want to check whether a square-wave inverter (what this one effectively is) will be suitable. Some of the earlier Resmed units require pure sine wave AC power to function. I have an S9 Autoset, which runs on either, but I bought a DC-DC converter which keeps the consumption between 1 and 5A when it's going (with humidifier). (No additional losses from an inverter).

Might be worth a visit to your CPAP's website

At the moment, I've managed to avoid needing an inverter. I've got everything running on 12v. May have to get a small genny as a backup for the solar because I'm on a compliance program for the CPAP and have to use it every night

Guys the thing to remember is the power required on the 12V side of the inverter . Modern inverters are about 90% efficient so with a 2500W unit you're going to see 2750W on the 12V side which is around 230A . This will require a very large battery and cables but you still won't get much run time unless the batt is massive .
        Cheers

          Good point vk2ss55.

You would not believe it by looking at the numbers, they seem unrealistic....

here is a basic calculator if anyone is interested.
